MUSTANGS TAKE 2nd AT SCHAUMBURG MIDWEST CLASSIC!

The Mustangs had a busy Spring break as they played 6 games in one week.  The Mustangs first played the #2 ranked team in Missouri -the DeSmet Spartans.  The Mustangs led most of the game before the Spartans staged a furious comeback late in the 3rd period and early in the 4th before taking the lead for good with less than two minutes to play.

The Mustangs then traveled to Schaumburg High School to open up pool play in the Midwest Classic against two time defending state champion of Missouri -St. Louis University High School (SLUH).  SLUH had not been beaten in over two year and were riding a 33 game win streak.  The Mustangs played with them defensively, but could not generate any offense to stay with the Jr. Billikens and fell 9-2.  From there, the Mustangs then defeated Conant and York to setup a semi-final match against Schaumburg who was undefeated on their side of the bracket.  In another gritty, defensive game, the Mustangs were down 4-2 at the half before storming back an winning 8-5 earning themselves a rematch with SLUH in the Championship.

The Mustangs managed once again to stay with the Jr. Billikens defensively and were down 4-2 at the half, but ultimately once again, the depth of the Jr. Billikens was too much for the Mustangs in losing 9-5.
