STUNNED 'STANGS DROP 3rd STRAIGHT
WHAT THE...? WAUCONDA SLAPS 2nd UPSET IN A ROW ON MHS.
Ring the alarm. The Mustangs' game is missing in action and they need to find it fast. A surprising mid-season slump has come out of nowhere right after the 'Stangs stomped rival Lake Forest last Saturday. MHS got hit with another unexpected loss on Thursday night -- this time at the hands of the Wauconda Bulldogs, who like Warren on the previous night, came out with their best game of the year and simply outplayed the Mustangs whose record dropped to 11-6 overall.
The Mustangs now hope to stop the downslide up at Zion-Benton on Monday, and then keep the winning continuing at Grant on Wednesday going into next Friday's huge match-up with powerhouse Stevenson back in the Mundelein Gym.
STILL LOOKING FOR 1st NSC-LAKE WIN
WARREN'S GYM STILL A JINX FOR MHS AS MUSTANGS GET UPSET 25-21, 25-23
What is it about Warren's gym? Is it the lights? Is it the size? Is it the floor? Is it that annoying little blue devil painted on the wall? It doesn't seem to matter if it's volleyball or basketball, girls or boys, underdog or favorite. Playing Warren in their house is haunting for MHS. The nightmare continued on Wednesday night as the 11-5 Mustangs couldn't find their A game and got upset by 7-10 Blue Devils in straight games 25-21, 25-23.
The 'Stangs look to rebound at Wauconda tonight, at Zion-Benton on Monday, and at Grant next Wednesday.

'STANGS PULL OUT INDESCRIBABLY DELICIOUS WIN
MUSTANGS MIRACLE AT CARMEL!
ONLY 1 POINT AWAY FROM DEFEAT, MHS STAGES UNBELIEVEABLE RALLY!
This one defies description. It was one of those experiences that every high school athlete should have. The drama in the Corsairs' gym began in the first game of the match that went to the Mustangs in overtime by a score of 28-26. Carmel bounced back to take the hard-fought 2nd game 25-20. And that set the stage for a nerve-wracking third and final game.
The Corsairs jumped out in front and rode the lead all the way to a decisive kill that put them on top 24-21. That was the last point Carmel would score as the Mustangs somehow ran off five straight to pull out the victory 26-24.

MHS WINS A CLASSIC THRILLER IN A CLASSIC GYM
MUSTANGS ROAR BACK TO WIN AT WAUKEGAN! NEXT UP...CARMEL
MHS pulled off a good ol' fashioned rally in Waukegan's old-school gymnasium on Tuesday night to raise their overall record to 6-2 for the year. But it was far from easy.
In front of highly charged, spirited crowd, the 'Stangs couldn't find any rhythm in game #1 until it was too late. MHS dropped the opener 25-21 thanks largely to 17 MHS miscues. Game 2 started off the same way as the Mustangs fell behind 2-0, but then Waukegan started their own string of misfires before both teams finally settled into playing quality volleyball after a Katie Randau soft kill shot gave MHS a 6-4 lead. The Bulldogs fought back to grab a 9-8 advantage until Alina Sagalovich's pulled out an acrobatic diving dig pass to setter Paige Tortorello who lofted it up for a slamming spike by Maggie Schroeder. That was followed by a Heidi Haubrich middle kill, and then a Randau serving ace to make it 11-9 MHS. But Waukegan rallied again to tie it up at 12 when Tortorello push-dinked a perfect shot to put the Mustangs in front to stay. Schroeder nailed 4 more kills, Sagalovich drilled another pair, and Haubrich's slam-dunk kill finished it off for a 25-17 win to even the match, and sent into the third and final game.
Freshman Michelle Parssinen spiked a winner to start things off 1-0 in game 3. MHS and Waukegan traded errant shots until Schroeder's ace and another Parssinen kill started the 'Stangs off on a 7-1 run that ended when Waukegan was forced to call a time-out following a Sagalovich soft roll winner.
Following the time-out, the Bulldogs ran off 3 straight points to close to within 3 before MHS assumed command with a kill from Randau, followed by a big block-kill from Tortorello, and when Haubrich got another kill the Mustangs had re-established their 6 point lead. The game went back-and-forth from there until Waukegan climbed back into it 21-18 by putting together a 4-point run to get their home crowd screaming. But the Mustangs responded as Sagalovich blasted a running kill shot followed by a power slam by Schroeder who eventually ended the thriller with a soaring kill to make the final 25-20. Colleen Hoffman was the Mustangs leading server with 13 of 13.
The Mustangs will next take on crosstown rival Carmel on Thursday in the Corsairs gym. MHS will be hoping to deliver at least some payback for that football game last week.

TENSE CONTEST GOES TO MHS WITH RALLY IN 3rd GAME
MUSTANGS RISE UP TO WIN REGIONAL OPENER BY DROPPING N. CHICAGO!
MHS ADVANCES TO FACE LIBERTYVILLE ON SATURDAY
It was everything you'd want in a state tourney opener as the Mustangs came through when the chips were down to put away North Chicago and advance to the Libertyville regional championship match on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm against the host Wildcats. After taking the first game 25-15, the 'Stangs lost an overtime heartbreaker in the second game 27-25, which set up the deciding Game 3. It turned out to be a back-and-forth thriller where the Mustangs reached down and came through big-time in the end to capture the victory 25-19.
The 'Stang Gang and Libertyville have met twice this season. MHS won the conference match on Oct. 6 at the Mustang Gym, while the 'Cats took a Crosstown Classic tourney match on Oct. 22 at Vernon Hills.
REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE ENDS ON AN UPNOTE!
'STANGS GET 3 OF 5 AT CROSSTOWN! NOW... GET READY FOR REGIONALS!
How far have these Mustangs come? After starting the season 0-6, things didn't look too good. One newspaper even predicted a last place finish in the NSC-Lake. This weekend a different tune was being sung as MHS finished off the regular season by winning 3 of 5 in the Crosstown Classic as they bested Zion-Benton, Deerfield, and Vernon Hills while dropping matches to Warren and Libertyville. The Stangs now prepare for their regional opener against North Chicago at Libertyville on Wednesday night.
