THREE LADY MUSTANGS QUALIFY FOR STATE!

The Lady Mustangs made history this weekend as three players qualified for the state tournament. MHS has never had three players qualify for state, and it has been over ten years since any player from Mundelein made the trip to state. Hanne MacDonald avenged two early season losses in fighting back to a three set win to qualify for state. MacDonald placed fourth in the sectional. Paige Parola and partner Karlie Alms avenged a late season loss to a team from Carmel on their way to a third place finish. The MHS team also place third in the sectional which is the highest finish ever for the Mustangs.

The three qualifiers play on Thursday.

LADY MUSTANGS FINISH 4th IN NSC TOURNEY

The Lady Mustangs finished fourth in the North Suburban Conference Tournament that was completed on Saturday. This is the highest finish in over ten years.

Hanne MacDonald fought to a third set victory to claim third place at #1 singles. Karlie Alms and Paige Parola finished third at #1 doubles, and Rosie Powers and Grace Casali fought to a fifth place finish as they avenged an earlier season loss to Warren.

The Mustangs play in the sectional tournament on Friday and Saturday at Highland Park.

LADY MUSTANGS TAKE 1st PLACE AT WHEELING QUAD

Mundelein 5, Wheeling 0

The Mustangs stormed to the championship at the Wheeling Invite on Saturday. The Mustangs defeated Hoffman Estates 3 -2 in the first round, and thumped Maine West 5 - 0 in the second round before stampeding the host Wheeling team 5 - 0 in the final round. Hanne MacDonald, Jenny Ranck, and the # 2 doubles team had perfect records.

On Friday, the Mustangs played tough in the Buffalo Grove Invite. Karlie Alms and Paige Parola finished second and #2 doubles, Karolina Kucybala and Mandy Ranck finished second at #3 doubles as did Rosie Powers and Grace Casali at #2 doubles. Hanne MacDonald, Jenny Ranck and Sarah Thompson fought to third place finishes at 1,2 and 3 singles.

The Mustangs prepare for the conference meet Thursday at Antioch.

LADY MUSTANGS TAKE 1st PLACE AT LAKES INVITATIONAL

The Lady Mustangs continue their roll - this past weekend the Lady Mustangs captured First Place at the Lakes Invitational. Fourteen teams from the Chicago Metro area competed at the Lakes Invite. Hanne MacDonald fought to three set victory in the championship match. Mandy Ranck and Karolina Kucybala literally ran their opponents into submission in capturing the title at #2 doubles, and Rosie Powers and Grace Casali crushed all comers losing only seven games in four match en route to a championship at #3 doubles. Paige Parola and Karlie Alms narrowly missed the championship coming in 2nd. Jenny Ranck played tough in a sixth place finish at #2 singles. On the way to her finish she thumped an opponent who had beaten her earlier in the season.

The Lady Mustangs travel to Stevenson on Tuesday, to Warren on Thursday, to Buffalo Grove for a Quad on Friday and to Wheeling for a Quad on Saturday. Congratulations to the Lady Mustangs!

LADY MUSTANGS 5 - ZION-BENTON 0

Thursday evening the Lady Mustangs hosted Zion-Benton and bounced back with a vengence with a dominating 5 - 0 victory. The team was led by Hanne MacDonald and Jenny Ranck who cruised at #1 and #2 singles respectively. The Mustangs also swept the doubles matches. The team travels to Lakes on Saturday to compete in the Lakes Invitational.

The Lady Mustangs travelled to Lake Forest on Tuesday and despite thier best efforts lost 0 - 5.

LADY MUSTANGS 3 - LAKE ZURICH 2

The Lady Mustang Tennis team won a close match against Lake Zurich 3 - 2. The #1 doubles team of Karlie Alms and Paige Parola sealed the win in a second set tiebreaker. Hanne MacDonald cruised to a straight set win at #1 while Mandy Ranck and Karolina Kucybala won in quick order at #2 doubles. #2 Jenny Ranck and the #3 team of Grace Casali and Rosie Powers battled back to keep their matches close.

The Lady Mustangs have the weekend off and take on perennial powerhouse Lake Forest on Tuesday.

The team lost a heartbreaking third set at #2 doubles as they lost to Libertyville 3-2. #3 doubles team Rosie Powers and Grace Casali cruised to a victory while Karile Alms and Paige Parola crushed their opponents to remain undefeated at #1 doubles. A special thanks to all the parents and teachers who came out to cheer on the Mustangs! The Mustangs take on Lake Zurich on Thursday.

LADY MUSTANGS TIE FOR 1st AT GB EAST INVITE

Mundelein 22; Glenbard East 22; Glenbard North 20; Lake Park 14; Montini 9; Elk Grove 2

Hanne MacDonald returned to action and captured the #1 singles crown. Jenny Ranck and Sarah Thompson played well at #2 and #3 singles.

On the doubles side, Karlie Alms and Paige Parola captured another championship as they remain undefeated at #1 doubles.

Mandy Ranck and Karolina Kucybala fought to a second place finish, while Rosie Powers and Grace Casali were the champions at #3 doubles. This is the first time that the Mustangs have won this tournament.

The Lady Mustangs face some formidable competition this week as they face Libertyville on Tuesday and Lake Zurich on Thursday. Good luck to the team.

LADY MUSTANGS OVER ROUND LAKE

The Lady Mustangs continue to roll. The Mustangs took it to Round Lake last evening. Jenny Ranck played #1 singles in place of Hanne MacDonald. Ranck used a wicked baseline game to ground her opponent into the ground. Sarah Thompson was victorious at #2, while the Mustangs swept the doubles spots. Karlie Alms and Paige Parola continued their unbeaten ways rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win.

LADY MUSTANGS TAKE 1st PLACE AT CARY GROVE QUAD

Mustangs won the tournament for the first time. The Lady Mustangs won despite playing without #1 singles player, Hanne MacDonald.

Karlie Alms and Paige Parola remain undefeated as they captured first place at #1 doubles. The duo is 10-0 on the year.

Mandy Ranck and Karolina Kucybala placed first at #2 doubles and are 9-1 for the year.

Rosie Powers and Grace Casali earned top honors at 3# doubles and are 8-2 on the year.

Jenny Ranck sealed the team title with a strong victory at #2 singles. She earned a third place medal.

Sarah Thompson played tough at #1 singles.

Congratulations to the Lady Mustangs! The Lady Mustangs travel to Round Lake on Tuesday, play at home on Wednesday against Grayslake Central and travel to Marian Central on Thursday. The JV team hosts Round Lake on Tuesday, travels to Grayslake on Wednesday and hosts Marian Central on Thursday. Stop out to see some great tennis!

MUNDELEIN TAKES FIRST PLACE IN LAKES QUAD

The Ladies Tennis Team smashed the competition at the annual Lakes Quad. The Mustangs ran away with the team title.

Hanne MacDonald captured top honors at #1 singles. The team of Karlie Alms and Paige Parola remained undefeated and were the champions at #1 doubles. Karolina Kucybala and Mandy Ranck won the competition at #2 doubles with some tremendous hustle, and Rosie Powers and Grace Casali wore down all opponents and captured the title at #3 doubles. Sarah Thompson played valiantly in earning third place.

The Mustangs host Woodstock on Monday at 4:30 and travel to Carmel on Tuesday. The Junior Varsity team travels to Woodstock on Monday and hosts Carmel on Tuesday. Stop by to check out some very good tennis!

WOODLANDS ACADEMY OVER MUNDELEIN

Last night the Ladies Tennis team took on Woodlands Academy. The final 4 to 1 loss doesn't reflect how close the match was. The final result was up in the air until the last few points. Karolina Kubycala and Mandy Ranck lost a tough match in the third set while Grace Casali and Rosie Powers lost a heartbreaker in the second set tiebreaker. Hanne MacDonald and Jenny Ranck played well at #1 singles and #2 singles. Karlie Alms and Paige Parola remained undefeated with a crusing victory at #1 doubles. The Junior Varsity team travelled to Woodlands Academy and fought hard in a losing effort.

MUSTANGS OVER GRANT

The Ladies Tennis team kicked off their season last night with a win over Grant. Hanne MacDonald crusied for the Mustangs at # 1 singles while Karlie Alms and Paige Parola crushed the #1 doubles team from Grant. Karolina Kubicula and Mandy Ranck fought to an impressive victory at #2 doubles while Rosie Powers and Grace Casali came from behind to dominate at #3 doubles. The lone setback for the Mustangs was at the #2 singles spot where Jenny Ranck lost a tight decision in the third set.=

2006 RESULTS:
MUSTANGS TAKE 6th IN NSC TENNIS TOURNAMENT
10/7 - The Mustangs finished their conference season by finishing a strong 6th out of 14 teams at the NSC Tennis Tournament over the weekend, which was hosted by Zion Benton. The Mustangs improved upon their 8th place finish from last year’s tournament. The Mustangs finished behind Lake Forest, Warren, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, and Stevenson. The Mustangs had strong showings from all of their players, with #1 Singles and #1 Doubles walking away with medals for their efforts.

At #1 Singles, Hanne MacDonald finished in 4th place as a Freshman losing 2 matches to some tough competition.
At #2 Singles, Sara DiNovi faced some tough competition and lost 2 matches to Warren and Stevenson.

At #1 Doubles, Katelynn Koepke and Karlie Alms finished the tournament 4-1 and won the consolation championship (5th place), also earning medals.
At #2 doubles, Rosie Powers and Grace Casali played well and finished 2-2, losing two matches to Stevenson and Lakes and winning a thriller against Vernon Hills.
At #3 Doubles, Mandy Ranck and Karolina Kucybala finished with a 2-2 mark defeating North Chicago and Lakes, but losing matches to Lake Zurich and Libertyville.

All of the girls played some excellent tennis throughout the weekend, pushing the Mustangs to a 6th place finish. The Mustangs will be traveling to Highland Park for Sectionals on Friday.

CONFERENCE WIN FOR THE MUSTANGS
9/15 - The Mustangs traveled to Zion-Benton on Friday to make up a conference match from this past Tuesday. The Mustangs made the long trip and were rewarded with a 4-1 victory to bring their conference record to 1-1. The Mustangs got straight sets victories at 1 and 2 singles and 1 and 3 doubles. At 2 doubles, the girls played a great and tough match, but fell short in three sets. This brings the Mustangs overall record to 9-3.

The Mustangs will have a busy week coming up with matches against Grayslake Central, Warren, and Stevenson.

MUSTANGS FINISH 2nd AT GLENBARD EAST INVITE
9/9 - The last two years, the Mustangs have traveled to Glenbard East and finished in 5th place, not being in contention for winning the invite. However, this year, the Mustangs came out strong and finished with 20 team points to finish in 2nd place, just getting edged out by Glenbard North with 21 points. The Mustangs received strong performances from all of their girls with 6 of the girls walking away with medals for their hard work.

At #1 Singles, Hanne MacDonald finished in 2nd place defeating Lake Park and Glenbard North, but eventually falling to Maine East in the 1st place match.

At #2 Singles, Sara DiNovi lost two tough matches to Glenbard East and Maine East, but fought back to defeat Elk Grove for 5th place.

At #3 Singles, Hanna Kjeldberg dropped her first match to Glenbard North, but rallied back to defeat Maine East and Lake Park to finish in 3rd place for a medal.

At #1 Doubles, Katelynn Koepke and Karlie Alms dominated the day defeating Glenbard East, Maine East, and Lake Park in straight sets to earn the 1st place medals.

At #2 Doubles, Rosie Powers and Grace Casali struggled in their first match losing to Glenbard North, but fought back and defeated Elk Grove. However, they dropped to close sets to Glenbard East 5-7, 5-7 to finish in 4th place.

At #3 Doubles, Mandy Ranck and Karolina Kucybala played three very close matches, but came through in all of them defeating Lake Park, Elk Grove, and Maine East to earn the 1st place medals.

It was a very successful day for the Mustangs, who just missed out on the team title.

MUSTANGS CONTINUE THEIR WINNING WAYS
9/5 - The Mustangs played host to Lakes Community High School in their NSC cross over match. The Mustangs stampeded to a 5-0 victory. All girls played great and won in straight sets.

At #1 Singles, Hanne cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory, improving her overall record to 8-2.

At #2 Singles, Sara also cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

At #1 Doubles, Katelynn and Karlie rolled in a 6-1, 6-2 victory, bringing their overall record to 9-1.

At #2 Doubles, Rosie and Grace won with scores of 6-0, 6-1.

At #3 Doubles, Mandy and Karolina played a tough match, but fought back to win 6-4, 7-5.

The Mustangs will be traveling to Glenbard East High School this Saturday for an invitational.

MUSTANGS GO 2-1 AT CARY GROVE QUAD
9/2 - The Mustangs competed in the Cary Grove Quad on Saturday. The Mustangs went up against Cary Grove, Antioch, and Larkin High Schools. The Mustangs finished the day with a 2-1 record defeating Larkin 4-1 and Antioch 3-2 and finished in 3rd place overall. The Mustangs had strong performances from all, with many of the girls finishing with medals at the end of the day.

At #1 Singles, Hanne MacDonald finished 2-1, defeating Antioch and Larkin in straight sets and finished with a 1st place medal.

At #2 Singles, Sara DiNovi went 2-1, beating Cary Grove and Larkin in straight sets as well and finished with a #2 place medal.

At #1 Doubles, Katelynn Koepke and Karlie Alms finished 2-1, defeating Larkin and Antioch in straight sets and finished with a 2nd place medal.

At #2 Doubles, Rosie Powers and Grace Casali played two very tight matches, but fell in both in a 3rd set super tiebreaker. Losing to Cary Grove 9-11 in a super tie break and Antioch 13-15 in a super tie break.

At #3 Doubles, Mandy Ranck and Karolina Kucybala finished 2-1, defeating Antioch and Larkin in straight sets and received a 1st place medal.

The Mustangs showed a lot of heart all day long and played tough. The Mustangs will be hosting Lakes Community High School on Tuesday.

MUSTANGS BOUNCE BACK WITH A VICTORY OVER WOODSTOCK
8/30 - The Mustangs were looking to bounce back from Tuesday's loss to Carmel as they traveled to Woodstock for a non-conference match. The Mustangs got solid play from all of their girls as they won 6-1.

At #1 Singles, Hanne MacDonald cruised to a straight set victory, 6-0, 6-1.

At #2 Singles, Sara DiNovi fought back in the 2nd set to win 6-1, 6-4.

At #1 doubles, Katelynn Koepke and Karlie Alms rolled with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

At #2 doubles, Rosie Powers and Grace Casali fought through in the 1st set 6-4 and took the 2nd set 6-0.

At #3 doubles, Mandy Ranck and Karolina Kucybala played tough and walked away with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

At #4 doubles, Sarah Thompson and HANNE Kjeldberg split the first two sets 6-2, 3-6 and won in a 3rd set tie breaker 7-2.

MUSTANGS SUFFER THEIR FIRST LOSS OF SEASON
8/29 - The Mustangs played host to Carmel on Tuesday and suffered their first loss of the season, losing 1-4. The Mustangs had been playing really well, but stumbled a bit against Carmel.

The one victory came from the #1 doubles team of Katelynn Koepke and Karlie Alms. They dropped the first set in a tight one 5-7, but fought back to take the match 6-0, 6-4. All of the other Mustangs lost in straight sets.

The Mustangs will try and regroup as they travel to Woodstock on Wednesday. The Mustangs will also be heading to Cary Grove this Saturday to compete against Cary Grove, Larkin, and Antioch.

MUSTANGS TAKE 1st PLACE IN LAKES QUAD
8/26 - The Mustangs traveled to Lakes Community High School to compete against Lakes, Wauconda, and Westosha High Schools. The Mustangs finished in 1st Place with a team total of 13 points. The Mustangs also earned 1st place medals at 1st singles, 1st doubles, 2nd doubles, and 3rd doubles.

At #1 Singles, Hanne MacDonald (Fr.) cruised through the day, dropping 1 game in 3 matches to finish in 1st place.

At #2 Singles, Sara DiNovi (Sr.) finished the day 1-1, winning in straight sets against Lakes, but dropping a match 5-7, 3-6 to Westosha. Sarah Thompson (Jr.) also chipped in at #2 singles losing her one match to Wauconda 2-6, 2-6.

At # 1 doubles, Katelynn Koepke (Sr.) and Karlie Alms (So.) finished with a 1st place medal dropping only 3 games all day.

At #2 doubles, Rosie Powers (Jr.) and Grace Casali (Jr.) finished the day with a 1st place finish dropping 8 games all day.

At #3 doubles, the two new faces Mandy Ranck (Jr.) and Karolina Kucybala (So.) finished as well with a 1st place medal dropping 8 games total.

Overall, the Mustangs had a great day from top to bottom and hope to continue their success next week against Woodstock and Carmel.

MUSTANGS START IT OFF WITH A BIG VICTORY
8/21 - The Mustangs started off the 2006 season with a big 5-0 victory over Grant. The Mustangs have 6 of last years 11 girls returning, but they also have 6 new girls on this years team. There were many unknowns coming into this season, but the Mustangs came through in their first match. At #1 Single, Freshman Hanne MacDonald gave a strong showing winning 6-0, 6-0.

At #2 Singles, Senior Sara DiNovi won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. At #1 Doubles, Senior Katelynn Koepke and Sophomore Karlie Alms rolled 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets as well. At #2 Doubles, Juniors Rosie Powers and Grace Casali cruised in the 1st set 6-0 and came through in the 2nd set 6-3. At #3 Doubles, the two new comers Junior Mandy Ranck and Sophomore Karolina Kucybala won in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

Overall, it was a great effort by the Mustangs from top to bottom. The Mustangs will be traveling to Grayslake Central on Thursday to build upon today's victory.

MUSTANGS FINISH 8th AT CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
Last weekend, the Mustangs traveled to Antioch, Lakes, and Grant High Schools to compete in the North Suburban Conference Tournament. In spite of the windy and cold weather conditions, the girls gave it their all. 

At #1 Singles, Sara DiNovi lost two very tough matches to Grant and Lakes High schools.

At #2 Singles, Rosie Powers lost her first match to Warren, but bounced back to beat Lakes. However, she was bounced out of the tournament by Grant.

At #1 Doubles, Liska Wittenberg and Kristina Kozova, won their first match against Zion Benton in straight sets, however in the next round they lost a three setter to Lake Zurich.

In the back draw, the girls beat Lakes and Stevenson due to default.

In the Consolation championship, the girls had a couple of match point opportunities, but couldn't finish it losing in a third set tie breaker. At #2 Doubles, Andrea Scarim and Katelynn Koepke, who were the #3 seed going in defeated Lakes 6-0, 6-0. However, in the next round they faced a tough Stevenson team and lost 3-6, 4-6.

In the back draw, they defeated North Chicago, Antioch, and Libertyville in straight sets to walk away with a Consolation Championship (5th Place) medals.

At #3 Doubles, Cynthia Panganiban and Karlie Alms, drew a tough first round match against Stevenson and fell 4-6, 5-7.

In the back draw, the girls defeated Vernon Hills, Antioch, and Grant in straight sets to advance to the Consolation Championship match for a rematch with the same Stevenson team that had knocked them out of the main draw. The team played tough winning the first set 6-4, but dropped the 2nd set 4-7 in a tie breaker and eventually dropped the match in the 3rd set 4-6.

Overall, the girls played great throughout the weekend and the team finished in 8th place, a drop from last years 5th place finish. 

The team will be traveling to Highland Park this Friday to compete in a tough sectional.

1st Doubles named to IHSATCA All-State Honorable Mention Team

Congratulations to the Mustangs 1st Doubles team of Ana Antonetti and Andrea Scarim, who were just named to the All-State Honarable Mention Team by the Illinois High School Tennis Coaches Association. They were given the honor due to their successful season at the #1 Doubles position. They had finished third at the NSC tournament behind eventual state qualifiers from Lake Forest and Stevenson. They also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Highland Park Sectional, just missing out on qualifying for the state tournament.
