ATHLETIC P.E.: Get it on Your Shedule:
As you are planning your schedule for next school year, please be sure to get Athletic PE on your schedule for Term 2, 1st Period. Those of you that have been in this class the past couple of years know what a great advantage it is to have this class. Besides the conditioning aspects of the class, players got to shoot a LOT of shots. As you know, that is hard to do during practice time, but fits perfectly into Athletic PE!
Keep in mind that this class is open to ALL potential Lady Mustangs' Basketball players, including incoming freshmen!
If you have any questions about this class, please feel free to contact Coach Evans or Coach Harding.
Don't miss out on this great opportunity!

LADY MUSTANGS 63 - GRANT 52
The Lady Mustangs turned some heads last night with their performance as they led from start to finish with an exciting 63-52 win over Grant on Thursday night. The win was the 23rd of the season for the Lady Mustangs which eclipses the previous school record. The Mustangs raced out to a 13-point first-quarter lead and never let the advantage dip below 7 points the rest of the night. It added up to the Mustangs' first regional crown in three years.
"We knew tonight would be about who is better at imposing their game on the other team," said Coach Evans. "We came out and hit some shots early and that gave us a big boost of confidence."
Mundelein opened red-hot by getting a pair of 3-pointers from Samantha Panitch and Toni Knar. Panitch then closed the first quarter with a layup and a steal to give the Mustangs a surprising 16-3 advantage.
"(The big lead) was a surprise because we know grant is such a good team," said Panitch, who led the Mustangs with 18 points. "I was so happy to see us get off to such a good start early."
The Lady Mustangs finished the first half with a flourish. Panitch buried her second 3-pointer of the half, then Kelsey O' Connor (15 points) drained her only 3 of the night -- and the Mustangs enjoyed their biggest margin, at 31-15 into intermission.
"We asked the kids in practice the other day if they thought they could win tonight," Evans said. "They all said yes. Then we asked if it was from their mouths or their hearts and they all believed in their hearts that they could do it."

LADY MUSTANGS 70 - HIGHLAND PARK 47
The Lady Mustangs made their 2008 debut in the IHSA State Tournament series a successful one with an up-tempo 70-47 win over Highland Park at Stevenson on Tuesday night. The win was the 22nd of the season for the Lady Mustangs which ties the school record for victories!! The Lady Mustangs also won 22 games during the 2000-2001 season, the 2001-2002 season, and the 2004-2005 season.
Tuesday night in the Class 4A regional opener for the No. 5 seed Mustangs, JJ Sawchuk shot the ball more and it paid big dividends for the Lady Mustangs. Sawchuk went for 18 points and contributed mightily on defense, helping the Mustangs advance.
"We wanted to come here and get the game to more of an up tempo style," Evans said. "We knew Highland Park played only five players so we thought we could wear them down."
By the time the game had gotten to the later stages of the third quarter and eventually to the fourth, Mundelein (22-7) had worn out the Giants. The Mustangs took a 28-21 halftime advantage and quickly turned that into a double figure lead to open the third quarter.
A 13-4 run that carried midway through the period gave the Mustangs their biggest lead of the night at 45-31 with 2:05 to play in the quarter.
Defensively, Mundelein had its sights clearly set on Highland Park leading scorer Tatiana Moore. Though she led all scorers with 19 points, Moore was harassed by the Mustangs on defense most of the night and it led to easy baskets the other way.
"It was our goal to take away (Moore) and (Genny Arnold)," Evans said. "I know the two of them had a lot of their shots early, but we wanted to make others beat us."
Mundelein was more diverse on offense. Toni Knar (17 points) and Samantha Panitch (10 points). Panitch added 7 assists and 4 steals.
Next up for the Lady Mustangs is a shot at the Regional Championship. The Lady Mustangs will take on the #4 seed Grant Bulldogs (who were a 54-39 winner over Stevenson on Tuesday) for the title. The game is set to tip off at 7:30 PM at Stevenson High School.
Get there before 7:00 PM and watch 3 members of the Lady Mustangs compete in the 3-point contest. Ally Hanas (9 makes), Kelsey O'Connor (8 makes), and Brooke Evans (8 makes) all advanced to the second round in the competition. They will be competing against 5 others as they try to move one step closer to advancing to the State finals in the 3-point contest.

LADY MUSTANGS 49 - LAKE FOREST 33
Thursday evening began with a very stirring sendoff to our seniors, thanks to our underclassmen. Ashley Castro, Samantha Panitch, and Kelsey Weyers were honored before the game and then their play helped to honor the Lady Mustangs. The Mustangs ended the regular season with their 21st win of the year by topping Lake Forest 49-33 in front of a very noisy crowd.
Next up for the Lady Mustangs is the opening round of the playoffs. They will be traveling to Stevenson on Tuesday night for an 8:00 PM showdown. Be sure to get there early as they will also have players competing in the three-point contest prior to the game. Come and help cheer on the Lady Mustangs as they vie for their school record tying 22nd win!!

The Lady Mustangs fell behind Warren early and never found their groove as they fell to the North Suburban Lake Division champs 61-33 in Gurnee on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Mustangs trailed 31-18 entering halftime, but the Blue Devils scored the first 6 points of the second half to extend their lead to 37-18 and they never looked back.
The Lady Mustangs got 9 points from Kelsey O'Connor and 7 points from JJ Sawchuk.
The Lady Mustangs will play their final crossover game of the season on Tuesday night, February 5th, when they travel to North Chicago to take on the Warhawks.
The Varsity game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
The Freshman and Sophomore games will begin at 5:30 PM.
Hope to see you there.
Due to the postponement of the game with Lake Forest earlier in the season, the Lady Mustangs will now be celebrating Senior Night on Thursday February 7th when the Scouts from Lake Forest come to town. The Lady Mustangs will be honoring our three Seniors: Ashley Castro, Samantha Panitch, and Kelsey Weyers. The ceremony will take place immediately following the Sophomore game and prior to the start of the Varsity contest. LADY MUSTANGS 51 - STEVENSON 44
The Lady Mustangs went over to Stevenson Tuesday night and did something that has only been done twice in the past 15+ years. They beat the Patriots on their home floor. The Lady Mustangs never say die attitude once again carried them to an exciting come from behind win. Although they trailed by as many as 11 points in the 3rd quarter, they kept on fighting. Then they exploded in the 4th quarter, outscoring Stevenson 19-7 on their way to a terrific 51-44 victory.
The Lady Mustangs won this game on the free throw line as they connected on 15 of 19 free throws, including 10 for 12 in the decisive 4th quarter.
Kelsey O'Connor and Samantha Panitch took high scoring honors with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Kelsey Weyers added 8 points and 4 rebounds while Toni Knar had 7 points, 4 rebounds, and took her team-leading 11th charge of the season. JJ Sawchuk was the most charitable Lady Mustang as she handed out 5 assists.
The Lady Mustangs will be looking to even the score with another opponent that they lost to in the first half as they travel to Warren to take on North Suburban Conference leading Warren in Gurnee on Saturday afternoon, February 2nd.
The Varsity game is slated to begin at 2:30 PM. We hope that you will be able to join us and help push the Lady Mustangs the extra mile to topple the mighty Blue Devils.
The last time the Blue Devils lost a conference game was to the Lady Mustangs almost 2 seasons ago. The Mustangs are once again looking to end a Warren winning streak.
Don't forget that the Freshman and Sophomores start the action at 1:00 PM.
We hope to see you there!!!

LADY MUSTANGS 58 - ZION-BENTON 50
The Lady Mustangs running game was back in full force as they pushed the tempo from start to finish as they topped Zion-Benton 58-50. The Zee-Bees never went away because Division I recruit Brittany Simmons kept them in the game as she scored a game high 20 points. But it was balance that made the Lady Mustangs so dangerous Friday night.
The Lady Mustangs had 4 players reach double figures in the scoring column with JJ Sawchuk (12 points), Kelsey O'Connor, Toni Knar, and Brooke Evans (10 points apiece) leading the way. Eight different players found their way into the scoring column.
Toni Knar also led the Lady Mustangs with 7 rebounds (giving her 101 rebounds for the season) with Kelsey Weyers and Kelsey O'Connor each grabbing 5 boards.
Samantha Panitch handed out a game high 6 assists getting her over the 100 assist mark for the season (she now has 101 assists).
The Lady Mustangs will be looking for a bit of revenge when they travel to Stevenson Tuesday night for a rematch with the Patriots. Stevenson upset the Lady Mustangs earlier this month when they came to MHS and posted a 50-49 win. Not only would the Lady Mustangs like to beat the rival Patriots, but they would also like to win a game on the floor where they will begin their run in the IHSA playoffs in a couple of weeks.
The Varsity is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
The Freshman and Sophomore games are set to begin at 5:30 PM.

From Saturday, January 19:
LAKE FOREST 42 - LADY MUSTANGS 36
The Lady Mustangs held Lake Forest to only 14 points in the first half of Saturday's game. Unfortunately for the Lady Mustangs, they only were able to score 9 points as they took a 5 point deficit to the locker room. After a better third quarter, the Lady Mustangs once again found a difficult time getting any shots to fall in the final quarter as they fell to the Scouts 42-36. Samantha Panitch led the Mustangs with 16 points, but no one really got on track the entire game. The loss drops the Lady Mustangs to 17-6 overall.
From Tuesday, January 15:
LADY MUSTANGS 51 - LAKE ZURICH 48
If you missed the first 2 quarters of Tuesday night's game, you should consider yourself lucky. The Lady Mustangs played lackluster and were trailing the Bears by 8. If you were late getting back from halftime and missed the first 2 minutes of the 3rd quarter, you missed Lake Zurich stretching the lead to 11. But if you missed the last 14 minutes of the game, you missed a lot. The Lady Mustangs outscored Lake Zurich 24 to 10 over that last 6 minutes of the 3rd quarter to turn an 11 point disadvantage into a 3 point lead. They did it with relentless defense and an offense that finally came to life. The quarter came to an end in dramatic fashion with the Lady Mustangs getting the lead as Ally Hanas drained a clutch 3 pointer for a 44-41 advantage.
The 4th quarter was a struggle between 2 good teams as the teams traded blows for the next 8 minutes. No one could breath until the final moments because the game was not over until the Bears rimmed out a 3 pointer as the buzzer sounded, signaling the end to an exciting come-from-behind 51-48 win for the Lady Mustangs. The Lady Mustangs have now moved their record to 17-5 on the season.

SPECIAL THANKS
WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU
We need to take a moment here and than all of those people who have made two very important things possible. They are:
The Holiday Classic
Due to the efforts of our parents, our Holiday Tournament here was a BIG success. We received numerous compliments from players, fans, and coaches. For all of you that gave us your time over the Holiday to work at the concession stand or the admission table, a BIG THANKS!!!! Also a special thank you to all of those people that donated items to our raffle.
The Arizona Trip
What a tremendous six days we had of sun, basketball, teambuilding, and enjoyment. The success of this trip depended upon a lot of planning. Thank you to those that spent time securing flights, hotel rooms, transportation, and the like. Because of your efforts, our trip was flawless. Secondly, another BIG THANKS to all of you who took an active part in our fundraising over the past year. Without your efforts, none of this would have been possible.
From Friday, January 4:
LADY MUSTANGS 69 - BOULDER CREEK 52
The Lady Mustangs made the long trek to Arizona a fruitful one as they capped off the six day excursion with a rousing 69-52 win over Boulder Creek. The Lady Mustangs enjoyed one of their most fruitful 3rd quarters of the season as they outscored the Jaguars 24-18 in that span.
The Mustangs were once again led by Kelsey O’Connor as she scored a game high 19 points while also handing out a team high 5 assists. Kelso had three 3-pointers in the game to give her a team high 33 three’s for the season. JJ Sawchuk added 12 points while Toni Knar and Jessica Bjerning each scored 8.
Olivia Dunigan and Knar also shred the rebounding lead with 5 boards apiece. Dunigan has now surpassed the 100 rebound mark for the season (she has 101) and is second on the team in rebounding behind only Kelsey Weyers (she has grabbed 109 boards). Dunigan also led the team with 5 steals in the game.
Samantha Panitch Arizona Blog Day 6
Our last full day in Arizona was today. It started off with another shoot around, which went very well as usual. After our shoot around we went to MHS alum Shawn Harlan’s house for a pre-game meal. We hung out there for a little while and played knock out, because we are not allowed to play it in practice. We then headed back to our hotel and then had to drive all the way back to Boulder Creek High School. This was A LOT of driving and it pretty much took up a majority of our day. Then it was time for our game against Boulder Creek.
Once again, our second half was much better than the first and we were able to wear them down with our fast breaking offense and our full court pressure defense. The efforts of our fast tempo didn’t show until late in the third and the fourth quarter, but we were able to come away with a 69 to 52 victory. We then watched the boys’ team once again dominate and win their game.
While we were watching though, we became BEST friends with Mr. Harlan’s four year old daughter Peyton and Toni’s cousin Charlie. Payton actually even invited me and some of the other girls to have a sleepover and even to live with them. It was a tempting offer because their house is beautiful with a basketball court and pool in the backyard.
After the boys game we headed to McDonald’s for some dinner and ice cream and then just went back to the hotel and showered and packed because we are leaving early tomorrow to catch our flight back to freezing Illinois. We will - without a doubt - miss the warmth and sunshine of Arizona. This trip has been an amazing experience for every girl on the team; it has helped us learn a lot about ourselves and each other. I just wanted to say thanks on behalf of our team to everyone that has helped make this trip possible for our varsity girls’ basketball team. It was something that not many other high school basketball players can say they have done and we are very grateful for this opportunity. ---- Submitted by Samantha Panitch, Mundelein Lady Mustangs Senior point guard
From Thursday, January 3:
LADY MUSTANGS 57 - DESERT MOUNTAIN 55
The Lady Mustangs made their first game outside of Illinois a success as they held off a talented Desert Mountain team 57-55. The game was back and forth, but the Mustangs were able to hold off one last charge by the Wolves to secure the victory. The third quarter was the turning point as the Mustangs outscored the Wolves 18-11 in that period.
The Lady Mustangs almost were their own worst enemy as they shot a dismal 11-25 from the free throw line.
The Lady Mustangs were led by Sam Panitch and JJ Sawchuk, as they each threw in 16 points. Kelsey O'Connor added 11 which included three three-pointers.
Olivia Dunigan was once again the board queen as she led all rebounders in the game with 8 boards.
The Lady Mustangs charted 18 assists on their 19 baskets, showcasing the great passing that has led to such a balanced scoring attack. Panitch, Sawchuk, Toni Knar, and Brooke Evans each had 3 assists.

Samantha Panitch Arizona Blog Day 5
Yesterday we played our first game in Arizona. Before the game, we had a shoot around at the high school we were going to be playing at, which was: Desert Mountain High School. We just went over our plays and shot free throws at the shoot around and then headed back to our hotel for a few hours to rest up and relax before our big game. When we arrived at the school for our 5 o'clock game, most of the girls were a little nervous; it was an excited kind of nervousness, we all just wanted to represent Lady Mustang basketball and all that it stands for.
Desert Mountain was the first team we have played all season that had fewer girls on their roster then we did. They only had eight players, but were still a very talented team. In the first half of the game we did not come out to play. We were not playing the kind of defense that had got us to where we are and we were not moving the ball well on offense; we were playing more as individuals, than as a team and because of that we were losing by one at half time.
But, after a motivating half time talk by Coach Evans, the second half was a different story. We picked up our defensive intensity and that set the tone for the rest of the game. We were now generating steals and forcing turnovers which made scoring that much easier. We had built up a ten point lead in the fourth quarter, but a scrappy Desert Mountain team would not go away. They crept back into the game and our lead had slipped to one point with less then twenty seconds remaining. We held our composure well at the end of the game though, and although we did not shoot free throws very well, we made enough to escape with a two point victory, 57-55.
After our game we watched our boys team demolish the Desert Mountain boys team by more then twenty points and then we went to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner. It was very slow service and it felt like it took forever for us to get our food. After dinner we returned back to the hotel, but it was already almost eleven o'clock, so we just got settled and went to bed. Today we play our second game in Arizona against Boulder Creek High School and it figures to be another good game!

Samantha Panitch Arizona Blog Day 4
Our second day of practice was held at Boulder Creek High School, this morning at eleven in the morning. The drive to practice was filled with singing songs like: 99 bottles of coke on the wall and the bazooka bubble gum song. We arrived at practice and worked on our man-to-man defense and our offense against a zone defense.
After practice we went over to Coach Knar’s parents and Toni’s grandparent’s house for lunch. They live in Arizona and their home was only a short distance away from both where we were practicing and our hotel. They graciously made us sloppy joes and pulled pork sandwiches, along with potato salad, chips, and gatorade for lunch. It was a beautiful day out, sunny, and over 70 degrees so we were all looking forward to swimming in grandma and grandpa Knar’s pool. The water was FREEZING though. Toni and Jess (Bjerning) still decided to jump in the water and Toni described the experience as “needles shooting through my body.” The rest of us just laid out on the porch and tanned and some girls played the game apples to apples.
Our favorite person at the Knar household was Toni’s four year old cousin Charlie. He was very entertaining as he yelled at Toni for breaking a screen door and then hid from us and said he could not speak to us when we tried to talk to him. We actually got some pretty good color for only laying out for about and hour and should be heading back to Mundelein with a very nice tan. We stayed at the Knars for a few hours and then we headed back to our hotel. On the way back, we stopped at an ice cream place called The Sugar Bowl, or as Coach Evans likes to call it, “Sugar Daddies.” While we were taking a picture outside of the restaurant a car pulled up beside us and it was our principal Dr. Ahlgrim, our athletic director Mr. Wilhelm and their wives! They are coming to watch our games this week and had just arrived in Arizona and were driving through town when we saw them. We went inside and Kelso and I played the basketball shooting game and Kelso kicked my butt. Then we enjoyed our ice cream and went back to our hotel to get ready for dinner. We went to Friday's for dinner, or as T (Toni) would say TGI Friday's. The rest of the night we spent relaxing in our rooms getting ready for our game tomorrow.

Samantha Panitch Arizona Blog Day 3
Today was a relaxing day in Arizona. We did not have a wakeup call, so we were able to sleep in as long as we wanted. As soon as everyone woke up and had breakfast we quickly changed into our swimsuits and headed down to the pool. The beautiful palm trees were an obstacle to the objective of the day: to get tan. That didn’t stop us from soaking up the rays though, the sun finally went over the palm trees and we enjoyed our day of fun in the sun.
Also, Coach Evans decided to jump into the hot tub with all of his clothes on, which was very amusing because the jets made his shirt puff out and he looked like a sumo wrestler. After spending a couple of hours at the pool we headed up to our rooms to shower and get ready for dinner. Before dinner though we decided to try and drive up one of the mountains. On the way up we stopped to take A LOT of pictures by cacti, the mountains, and mustang statues. We were so close to getting all the way to the top of the mountain, but couldn’t go any further because we could not get through the gated communities. We were all thankful Coach Harding did not get us lost on the way back down the mountain and we headed over to Olive Garden for dinner. Coach Evans treated us all to dinner so that made it taste even better! After that we went out to enjoy some ice cream. The singing during all of the car rides definitely makes them some of the most fun times we have had on our trip so far. These car rides are also good for bringing our team closer together. One of the main ideas for us coming to Arizona was to help our team becoming closer and to help with our team bonding. All of us have been getting along great and I think the time we are spending together during our six days here will help us a ton during the second half of our season. Tomorrow looks to be a much busier day starting off with practice early in the morning. ---- Submitted by Samantha Panitch, Mundelein Lady Mustangs Senior point guard
Samantha Panitch Arizona Blog Day 2
The second day has been phenomenal! It was another sunny day in Arizona , you really couldn't ask for more perfect weather! We had our first practice of the trip. We would have left the hotel at 9 AM but Coach Knar and the boys’ team left without us, so we had to wait for them to come back so we could follow them.
When we finally arrived at Boulder Creek High School , we were met by MHS alum Shawn Harlan. He graciously brought us fruit and Gatorade and we were lucky enough to have his talented sixth grade daughter, Morgan, practice with us. Practice was tough as usual. Coach Evans worked us hard and did not let us slack off at practice just because we are in Arizona.
On the way back from practice Coach Harding got us lost. Everyone was really worried in the van because we didn't think that we were gonna have enough time to shower and get ready for the Insight Bowl that we were attending later that night. And I think most of the girls would agree, they got ready as fast as they ever have. It also helped that our mom chaperones bought us Subway, so we didn't have to stop anywhere for lunch. We went to the Insight Bowl at Arizona State's stadium where we watched Oklahoma State
play Indiana. Oklahoma State dominated from the start and we ended up leaving the game early to go to a block party at Tempe Town Lake to celebrate New Years. Everyone had a great time bringing in the New Year where we hung out and listened to different bands like the Barenaked Ladies perform. We all were exhausted from our busy day and fell asleep as soon as our heads hit the pillow.
Tomorrow is looking to be another eventful day. We are planning on going to the Grand Canyon, but if the weather isn't good, we are planning on having a relaxing day spent by the pool!

GREETINGS FROM ARIZONA
The first day of our trip to Arizona has been a whirlwind. We were literally up before the sun rose as we had to meet at Mundelein High School by 4 in the morning to catch our flight. On the bus ride over to the airport, Coach Evans lectured to us about the rules for our trip, most of which we had heard countless times from previous trips we have taken as a team. Also on the bus ride we were lucky enough to be able to listen to the wonderful singing of Kelso (Kelsey O’Connor) and JJ (Sawchuk). Even though it was early, you could tell everyone was excited when we arrived at the airport, especially Kelsey (Weyers) because it was her first time flying. We went through all of the normal things you do at the airport: checked in our luggage, went through security, and then went to our terminal to wait. At security, Ally (Hanas) was caught trying to be sneaky by bringing in a water bottle, so she had to be searched which was amusing to everyone. Our plane was on schedule so we took off for Arizona at 7:30 AM. It felt like an extremely long flight even though it was only three hours long. Most of the plane trip was spent sleeping and listening to ipods, but some girls spent the flight taking pictures of the beautiful scenery. When we finally arrived in Arizona , we drove the biggest van I have ever seen (it fits 15 people!) to our hotel. The first thing everyone commented on when we stepped off the plane was the palm trees. We were all starving and wanted to do nothing but eat so we went to California Pizza Kitchen for lunch. Later tonight, we’re going to the mall and a movie. We are all looking forward to the rest of the week. It is sunny and 64 degrees here and the sunshine just makes you smile and puts you in a good mood. This should be the perfect way to end our winter break. ---- Submitted by Samantha Panitch, Mundelein Lady Mustangs Senior point guard

LADY MUSTANGS 55 - HUNTLEY 39
In the Lady Mustangs' tournament finale, they faced the Huntley Red Raiders with a chance to earn the 5th place spot in the tournament. The Lady Mustangs finished off the Holiday Tournament last year by defeating Huntley, giving them their first loss of the season, and winning the tournament. There was not as much on the line this year, but the Lady Mustangs were looking to finish the tournament with a good performance.
The Lady Mustangs were able to build a few leads as the game wore on, but Huntley never went away. The Mustangs, however, never gave up the lead and then pulled away down the stretch, posting a 55-39 win and finishing the Holiday Classic with a 4-1 mark.
As has been the Lady Mustangs trademark all year, a different player stepped to the forefront and took the game over. Tonight it was JJ Sawchuk. She led the Lady Mustangs with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Kelsey Weyers had one of her best games of the tournament as she posted 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Sam Panitch was once again doing her best to set up her teammates as she passed out a game high 5 assists. JJ Sawchuk led the way on the defensive end of the floor by collecting 4 steals.

Toni Knar led the charge with a game high 16 points as well as a game high 11 rebounds. Joining her in double figure was Olivia Dunigan (13 points and 7 rebounds) and JJ Sawchuk (11 points, 8 rebounds). Knar also led the Mustangs with 3 steals and, just for good measure, threw in 4 assists.

CONANT 52 - LADY MUSTANGS 49
In the showdown of the day, the Lady Mustangs and the Conant Cougars battled for the final spot in the Championship pool. The Lady Mustangs seemed out of hope when a near miracle happened. Describing it is near impossible. Needless to say, with 1.4 seconds to go, the Mustangs inbounded the ball. As the buzzer sounded, Sam Panitch drained a 3 pointer from 25 feet away to send an absolutely wild and entertaining game into overtime. For those that were there, they were treated to 32 great minutes of basketball. The excitement did not end in the overtime. Conant built a 3 point lead once again and the Mustangs again had a final chance to send the game into overtime. However, their luck ran out and Conant prevailed in a 52-49 overtime thriller.
Sam Panitch led the way with 14 points. Kelsey O'Connor added 12 and JJ Sawchuk had 9.
Olivia Dunigan was once again a beast on the boards as she led both teams with 10 rebounds.
Panitch also dished out 4 assists and Sawchuk had 3 assists.

The Lady Mustangs were paced by JJ Sawchuk and Olivia Dunigan, each of whom scored 14 points. Kelsey O'Connor added 9.
Sawchuk also led the team with 7 rebounds while Sam Panitch collected 5 boards.

The Mustangs got a great second half from JJ Sawchuk as she posted a game high 18 points. She led a quartet of players in double figures. She was joined by Kelsey Weyers (13), Jessica Bjerning (11), and Kelsey O'Connor.
Kelsey Weyers was back to her rebounding ways as she led both teams by collecting 14 boards. Jessica Bjerning posted the first double-double of her career as she also found her way to 10 rebounds.
The Lady Mustangs also found their way to 20 steals, with 4 each from Sawchuk, Weyers, and O'Connor. Toni Knar and Samantha Panitch added 3 steals each. O'Connor and Knar also topped the assist board with 4 apiece.

WARREN 58 - LADY MUSTANGS 49
The Lady Mustangs gave the undefeated Warren Blue Devils all they could handle on Monday night but they still ended up on the short end of the stick, falling 58-49. The Lady Mustangs held Warren without a field goal for the entire 4th quarter. Unfortunately, Warren did not seem to miss from the free throw line. Sarah Boothe (19 points and 8 rebounds) was held in check for most of the 2nd half, scoring only 2 baskets, but her 5 free throws in the 4th quarter helped to seal the deal.
The Lady Mustangs got gutty performances from both Samantha Panitch and Brooke Evans. Panitch led the Mustangs with 11 points and 2 assists and Evans added 10 points (including 2 three-pointers) as well as defending Boothe inside. Toni Knar and Olivia Dunigan each had a team leading 4 rebounds. JJ Sawchuk led the defensive charge with a season high 7 steals.

From Saturday, December 15:
LADY MUSTANGS 74 - ZION-BENTON 29
If you missed the game at Zion-Benton on Saturday afternoon, you missed quite a show. The Lady Mustangs turned up the defensive pressure by limiting Zion-Benton to only 29 points on only 26% from the floor, while forcing 26 turnovers on their way to a 74-29 thumping of the Zee-Bees. They also limited Zion's leading scorer and Division I recruit Brittany Simmons to only 6 points (all in the first quarter). Olivia Dunigan and JJ Sawchuk drew the primary responsibility of shutting her down, but it was a great effort by the entire defense to limit her chances. But that was not what the people who left the game were talking about.
Kelsey O'Connor had a game to remember. Kelsey scored a career high 37 points that included 5 three-pointers as she helped to pace the Lady Mustangs' offense. The hotter she got, the more her teammates looked for her. Samantha Panitch was the biggest contributor as she handed out a game high 8 assists. She also added in 4 steals. Brooke Evans had her first double digit game of the season as she tossed in 10 points. Kelsey Weyers once again was the leading rebounder for the Lady Mustangs as she hauled in a team high 8 boards. That gives Kelsey 35 rebounds over her last three games. JJ Sawchuk added 8 points and Ally Hanas chipped in 3 assists.
Next up for the Lady Mustangs is North Suburban Conference leader Warren. The Blue Devils are currently undefeated and in first place in the conference. The Lady Mustangs, fresh off of back-to-back wins, are looking to put a dent in the Blue Devils' perfect season. The last time the Blue Devils lost a conference game it was right here on the Lady Mustangs home floor.
Come out and show your support for the Lady Mustangs as they look to continue their good start this season. Freshman and Sophomore games are set to begin at 5:30 PM with the Varsity set to go at 7:00 PM. Come out early and show your support for our lower levels!

LADY MUSTANGS 47 - DUNDEE-CROWN 24
The Lady Mustangs simply wore Dundee-Crown out last night. Between the pace at which thy pushed the ball up the floor and their defensive intensity, the Chargers were left beaten and exhausted. In fact, Dundee-Crown was only able to muster 1 basket in the entire second half of Thursday night's game (a 3-pointer in the third quarter)!! When it was over, the Lady Mustangs had posted an inspiring 47-24 win over the Chargers.
Most inspiring of all might have been the defensive work of Kelsey Weyers. Kelsey's play sent a loud trumpet blast over everyone watching as she grabbed a career high 16 rebounds, added in 6 steals, and held D-C's 6-foot post player to only 8 points.
"Kelsey Weyers played one of the best defensive games I've seen her play in two years of varsity basketball," Mustangs coach Brian Evans said. "I mean, she played against a big, tough girl in that Pilson girl." (quote courtesy of the Daily Herald)
But she was not without help. The rest of the defense jumped on the "Band"-wagon and forced Dundee-Crown into 34 turnovers, many of which they converted into points on the other end of the floor. Samantha Panitch continued to show her Senior leadership, leading the team in scoring with 12 points and collecting 6 steals, while Kelsey O'Connor chipped in 11 points (including 2 3-pointers).
Next up for the Lady Mustangs is the lone road game in the next two weeks as they travel to Zion-Benton on Saturday afternoon to take on the Zee-Bees. Lower level games begin at 1:00 PM with the Varsity set to tip off at 2:30 PM.

LAKE ZURICH 47 - LADY MUSTANGS 46
The game at Lake Zurich on Friday night was one of the most hotly contested of the early season for the Lady Mustangs. No team was ever able to pull away as the largest lead for either team was only 5 points. Most of the time the game went back and forth trading baskets. Unfortunately, the Bears got the best of trading down the stretch as they posted a 47-46 win over the Mustangs. If you missed it, the last three minutes was the Lydia Bauer show as the Bears' top player poured in 23 points, 11 of them coming in the closing minutes. And with all of that, the Lady Mustangs had the ball with 7 seconds left in the game but could not come up with the big basket they needed to steal the victory.
The Lady Mustangs were led by Kelsey O'Connor's 12 points. Sam Panitch chipped in 9 points. "We started a little lackadaisical and our attitude and intensity wasn't where we wanted it," Coach Evans said. "But the good news is we adjusted some at halftime with our attitude and intensity and played a good second half." (Quote courtesy of the Daily Herald).
The Lady Mustangs finally return home where they will play 8 of their next 9 games. The week kicks off with a home contest against Lake Forest on Tuesday night. The sophomore and freshman teams get the evening started at 5:30 PM with the Varsity to follow at 7:00 PM.
The busy week continues with a home game against Dundee-Crown on Thursday night, a road game at Zion Benton on Saturday afternoon (please note that game's time has been changed), and concludes with a home game next Monday night against conference leader Warren. LADY MUSTANGS 43 - PALATINE 41
The weather was wild on Tuesday night and so was the finish to the Varsity game out at Palatine. The Lady Mustangs led by as many as 15 points in the second half before the weather started to change. And change in a hurry it did. Palatine mounted a fierce comeback and finally tied the game at 41 with just over a minute to go. But the Mustangs never lost their composure. After missing a shot, they forced a turnover form Palatine with 43 seconds to go. The Lady Mustangs got one more chance with the ball to try and finish this wild game off. And finish it they did. They ran their offense to perfection, finishing with a set play that resulted in Kelsey O'Connor getting fouled with 4.1 seconds remaining. She calmly stepped up, and hit both free throws for a 2 point lead. But no one on the Lady Mustangs' benched exhaled until the final buzzer went off as Palatine threw up a last ditch 3-pointer that just missed and the Lady Mustangs escaped with a 43-41 win over the Pirates.
The Lady Mustangs got another nice game from senior point guard Samantha Panitch as scored 12 points and handed out a team high 5 assists. JJ Sawchuck led the Mustangs in scoring with 13 points while also hauling in 8 rebounds. Kelsey Weyers led all players on both teams by collecting a game high 9 rebounds. Kelsey O'Connor finished with 8 points (and 2 HUGE free throws) while Toni Knar also had 8 points, 4 assists and took a thunderous charge. Olivia Dunigan grabbed 5 offensive rebounds.

LADY MUSTANGS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY WITH A WIN
he Lady Mustangs opened North Suburban Conference play on Saturday afternoon by visiting Libertyville. Once the Lady Mustangs got the lead at 5-4, they never let it go again on their way to a 64-48 win over the Wildcats. The Lady Mustangs got 20 points from Samantha Panitch in the win.
The Lady Mustangs take to the road again Tuesday night as they head to Palatine to take on the Pirates in a Non-Conference meeting. The Pirates are coming off a tough 41-36 loss to cross town rival Fremd and will be looking to get themselves back in the win column. We would love it if we got a big crowd at this away game.
The Sophomore and Freshman teams get things started at 6:00 PM.
The Varsity is set to begin at 7:30 PM.
From Tuesday, November 27:
LADY MUSTANGS 77 - LAKES 37
On Tuesday night, the Lady Mustangs put on a clinic on how to run the floor as they piled up 31 points in the first quarter as they cruised oto a 77-37 victory over Lakes. The onslaught was led by JJ Sawchuk as she poured in 16 points in less than 3 quarters of work. Toni Knar also added 16 points and what seemed like an assist on every other basket with her great passing.
Every player on the Lady Mustangs team put their mark on the scoring column last night including Kelsey Weyers' 13 points and Jessica Bjerning's 9 points.
From Wednesday, November 21:
CARMEL 42 - LADY MUSTANGS 36
The Lady Mustangs waited until the 4th quarter to start playing the kind of basketball that they are capable of playing. Unfortunately, they started that quarter down 37-20 to the Corsairs from Carmel. They got the score back to 39-36 with 50 seconds to play but three straight missed free throws and a possession that ended in a blocked shot did not allow them to get any closer as they fell to Carmel 42-36 in the Championship game of the Lady Mustangs' Thanksgiving Shootout.
The missed free throws down the stretch were just three in a long line of misses as the Lady Mustangs were a woeful 6-19 from the free throw line while Carmel hit 10-13. Carmel also got plenty of second chance points during the game. Two things that no team can afford if they hope to have success.
The Lady Mustangs were led by JJ Sawchuk as she posted her season high with 17 points. Toni Knar added 10. Kelsey Weyers led the team with 5 rebounds while Olivia Dunigan added 4 boards, 3 steals, and took a thunderous charge in the second half.
In addition to the team's success during the tournament, three players were also honored by the opposing coaches and were selected to the All-Tournament team. They were JJ Sawchuk, Samantha Panitch, and Kelsey O'Connor. Congratulations girls.

From Thursday, November 15:
LADY MUSTANGS 45 - GB NORTH 36
The Lady Mustangs played what could be deemed as an "ugly" game on Thursday night, shooting only 25% from the floor but finding a way to get it done with a 45-36 win over previously unbeaten Glenbrook North in the final round of pool play at the Thanksgiving Shootout. The win keeps the Lady Mustangs unbeaten at 3-0 and gives them the top seed in their pool.
The difference in the game came on the free throw line where the Lady Mustangs went 17-27 including 13-20 in the 4th quarter while Glenbrook North was only 6-12 from the line. The Mustangs once again had great balance in their scoring as Kelsey O'Conner led the way for the third straight night with her 12 points. Samantha Panitch added 11. Sam also had these words to say about last night's game (quotes courtesy of the Daily Herald):
"Glenbrook North played good defense. They definitely contested our outside shots. We're accustomed to making our outside shots. That's how we've been winning games. But I think we kept our poise really well. We weren't hitting shots, but we kept shooting. I think that's important for our confidence."
When asked about Kelso's performance, she added these thoughts:
"She's huge. She's obviously going to score points for us. She can play defense. She's going to be an all-around player for us. I'm just happy for her that she's doing so well. She deserves it. She works hard."
The crossover games in the tournament are now set to begin. The Lady Mustangs will be hosting Rolling Meadows on Saturday night starting at 7:30 PM. The final game of the night Saturday features the battle of the Mustangs. There are 3 games prior to the Mustangs tip-off, with the early game beginning at 3:00 PM.

From Wednesday, November 14:
LADY MUSTANGS 68 - PRAIRIE RIDGE 53
The Lady Mustangs made it two wins in a row with a 68-53 win over Prairie Ridge in their second game of the Lady Mustangs' Thanksgiving Shootout. The Mustangs led this game from start to finish but could never seem to pull away from the pesky Wolves. Everytime the offense would put a nice run together, the defense would be pierced by another 3 pointer from Prairie Ridge. The Wolves sunk 8 three's in the game.
The Lady Mustangs had great balance in their scoring, getting double figures from 3 different players. Kelsey O'Connor and Toni Knar led the way with 16 points apiece while JJ Sawchuk added 14.
Next up for the Lady Mustangs is Glenbrook North, who also is sitting at 2-0 after the first three days of the tournament. The winner of Thursday night's game will be the number 1 seed in Pool A while the loser will hold down the number 2 seed.

From Monday, November 12:
LADY MUSTANGS 56 - VERNON HILLS 43
The Lady Mustangs got the season off on the right foot on Monday night as they claimed a 56-43 win over Vernon Hills in the opening round of the Mustangs Thanksgiving Shootout.
It was a game of ups and downs. The Mustangs led 15-9 after one quarter but were outscored 14-3 in the second to translate into a 5 point halftime deficit. But the Lady Mustangs put the pedal to the metal in the third quarter, pitching a shutout by outscoring the Cougars 19-0 to open up a 14 point lead. But the Cougars would not go away, twice getting the lead back to 5 in the 4th quarter. However the Lady Mustangs held on with some clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to hold on for the win.
It was quite a Varsity debut for Kelsey O'Connor. She led all scorers with a game high 22 points, including 4 three-pointers to pace the attack. JJ Sawchuk added 11 and Sam Panitch threw in 10 to help pace the Lady Mustangs.
The Lady Mustangs continue play in the Thanksgiving Shootout on Wednesday night as they play host to Prairie Ridge. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM.
