MUSTANGS 10 - EVANSTON 0
The Evanston Wildkits were late getting to Mundelein on Thursday and the game didn’t start until 5:30 PM, but the Mustangs didn’t mind one bit as they jumped out to an early six-run lead and cruised to a five inning 10-0 win. With the victory, the Mustangs overall record moved to 26-3 on the season. The offense continued to impress as the Mustangs pounded out 11 hits highlighted by Alex Ahonen’s (2-for-2, single, 2R-HR, 3RBI) two-run homerun in the 1st inning. In the inning, Kevin Barber (1-for-2, single, SAC, RBI) singled, Colton Tortorello (2-for-3, single, 2B, RBI) singled with Barber moving to third base. With Jamie Baldwin (1-for-2, single, 2RBI) at the plate, Barber scored on a balk and Baldwin drew a walk. After an out, Jack Walliser (2-for-3, 2-2B, 2RBI) hit the first of his two doubles scoring Tortorello and Baldwin. Dillon “Brother D” Smith (1-for-3, 2B, RBI) drove in Walliser with a double and Smith then scored on Ahonen’s line drive homerun that was nearly grabbed by the Evanston left fielder as he reached up over the fence and gloved the ball that popped out and over when his arm hit the fence. Justin Piasecki (1-for-3, single) and Jay Mueller (1-for-2, single) had the other Mundelein hits. Eric Rohe (12-0) pitched the shutout allowing four hits while striking out three and walking two. Rohe helped his own cause by picking a runner off second base in the 1st inning and a runner off first base in the 2nd inning. The Mustangs travel to Highland Park for a game with the Giants on Saturday.

MUSTANGS 13 - WAUKEGAN 2
Two home runs and seven RBI’s in one game? “That’s the fact Jack!” as in Jack Walliser and it was Walliser that provided enough runs to defeat the Waukegan Bulldogs by himself on Tuesday in Waukegan. The Mustang’s as a team pounded out 14 hits in a 13-2 victory upping their record to 24-3 overall. Jay “Ferris” Mueller pitched five innings for the win allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three and walking one. The Mustangs sent nine batters to the plate in the 3rd inning and 10 batters in the 4th. On offense the Mustangs were led by Walliser (2-for-3, 3-R HR, GSHR, 7RBI), Dillon Smith (1-for-3, HR, RBI), Kevin Barber (2-for-3, 2 singles, RBI), Mark VanderVennet (2-for-3, single, 2B, RBI), Jamie Baldwin (2-for-3, 2 singles), Colton Tortorello (1-for-1, single, RBI), Justin Piasecki (1-for-2, 2B, 2RBI), Brad Medina (1-for-2, 2B), Mueller (1-for-2, single) and Jimmy Cantagallo (1-for-1, single). Walliser hit his first home run, a three-run shot, in the third inning with Tortorello and Piasecki on base. Dillon Smith went back-to-back as he followed Walliser with a towering shot over the left center field fence. In the fourth, Walliser cleared the bases with a grand slam over the center field fence and was the seventh consecutive batter to reach base safely in the inning. The Mustangs look to continue their success tomorrow against Round Lake in Round Lake.

Eric Rohe pitched a scoreless/hitless 7th inning while striking out two. The Mustangs pounded out 12 hits and sent eight men to the plate in the 2nd inning and nine men to the plate in the 3rd. Vince Wong had an RBI on a groundout to the right-side pinch hitting in the 6th.On a very chilly afternoon it was good a good sign to have the bats nice and warm, yet the Mustangs left 10 men on base for the game. This was the first of three crossover games for the Mustangs as they must travel to Waukegan on Tuesday and then to Round Lake on Wednesday.
From Thursday, May 8:
MUSTANGS 4 - WARREN 2
“Winning Ugly” was a good way to describe the Mustang’s 4-2 victory over Warren in Gurnee on Thursday. After scoring in the first inning, the Mustangs found themselves trailing 2-1 after five as they had collected only three hits. But in the 6th the bats warmed up collecting five straight hits to score three runs and Eric Rohe shut down the Blue Devils the rest of the way to move his record to 11-0. For the game, Rohe struck out 11 batters, allowing 3 hits and walking one. The usually strong defense committed three errors for the day with two of the errors resulting in Warren’s two unearned runs. The offense was led by Jack Walliser (3-for-3, 3 singles, SB, RBI), Jamie Baldwin (2-for-3, 2 singles), Justin Piasecki (1-for-3, single), Jay Mueller (1-for-3, 2B, 2RBI) and Alex Ahonen (1-for-3, single, RBI). The decisive sixth inning started out with a base hit by Jamie Baldwin who was then called out as he attempted to steal second base. Piasecki then singled to left field followed by a single from Walliser with Piasecki taking third base. With runners on the corners, Jay Mueller doubled to the wall in left-center field scoring both runners. Alex Ahonen then singled up the middle scoring Mueller with the Mustang’s final run. The win, coupled with Lake Zurich’s 9-5 win over Stevenson, puts the Mustangs in a tie with the Bears at 10-2 in conference play. Overall, Mundelein’s record moves to 22-3 on the season and they continue their non-conference schedule on Saturday at Fremd HS in Palatine.

WARREN 2 - MUSTANGS 0
The Mustangs seven game winning streak came to a halt Tuesday as the visiting Warren Blue Devils defeated the Mustangs 2-0 behind the four-hit pitching of Sean Kennedy. Ian McDermott took the loss and went four innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out two and hitting two batters. Jay Mueller pitched the final three innings allowing one run on one hit while striking out two and walking two. On offense the Mustangs had a total of four hits. Collecting hits were Kevin Barber (1-for-2, single, BB, SB), Justin Piasecki (1-for-3, single) and Alex Ahonen (2-for-3, 2 singles). The Mustangs best scoring chance came in the bottom of the 7th inning as Piasecki lined a single up the middle and after two were out Ahonen singled to right field putting men on first and second base. Catcher Brad Medina, the Mustang’s last hope of the inning, had a good at-bat fouling off at least five pitches to work the count to 3 and 2 before striking out. The Mustangs played another error free game with Jamie Baldwin making two great plays at third base in the 1st and 5th innings. With the loss, the Mustangs fall into a first place conference tie with Lake Zurich at 9-2 and have an overall record of 21-3. The Mustangs look to gain a split with the Blue Devils on Thursday in Gurnee.
From Saturday, May 3:
MUSTANGS TAKE 2 FROM STEVENSON
GAME ONE
Neither rain, nor wind, nor Prom Night could stop the “Rohe Express” on Saturday as Eric Rohe upped his record to 10-0 as the Mustangs defeated Stevenson 1-0 in Mundelein. Rohe pitched the complete game shutout allowing only one hit, which came in the sixth inning off the bat of pinch hitter Michael Donovan, while striking out 11 and walking two. He also made a key defensive play in the sixth, fielding a suicide squeeze bunt on a very slippery infield to slow the only Patriot threat of the game. On offense, the Mustangs struggled as they managed only three hits while leaving 5 men on base. However, the big hit for Mundelein came in the bottom of the fifth as catcher Brad Medina (1-for-2, HR, RBI) led off with a home run over the left field fence. It was Medina’s second HR of the season. Colton Tortorello (1-for-2, single, BB) and Jack Walliser (1-for-2, single, BB) had the other hits for the Mustangs.

GAME TWO
What a difference a first-game victory and a between-game cheeseburger will do. The Mustangs scored 11 runs over five innings in game two to defeat Stevenson 11-0 to completing the conference sweep Saturday afternoon. Winning pitcher Justin Piasecki (4-0) pitched five innings allowing no runs on 3 hits, striking out three and walking none. The Mustang offense racked up 10 hits against Stevenson’s number one pitcher. Leading the attack was Jack Walliser (2-or-3, single, 3R-HR, 3RBI) who launched a towering three run homer onto Midlothian Road in the fourth inning. Colton Tortorello (2-for-4, 2-2B, 2RBI), Jamie Baldwin (1-for-4, 2B, SB), Piasecki (2-for-4, 2 singles, 2RBI), Brad Medina (2-for-2, single, 2B) and Mark VanderVennet (1-for-3, single, SB) also joined the hit parade for the Mustangs. Mundelein sent eight men to the plate in both the fourth and fifth innings. With the victories, Mundelein moves to 21-2 overall and 9-1 in conference and will play their final two conference games of the season next week against the Warren Blue Devils.

From Thursday, May 1:
MUSTANGS 3 - ZION 2
The Mustangs had to dig down deep to pull out a 3-2 victory over a scrappy Zion squad at home on Thursday. The Mustang’s overall record moved to 19-2 and 7-1 in conference play and reflected the team’s growth as they rallied around each other during the game for a victory highlighted by strong pitching, solid defensive and some timely hitting. Senior Justin Piasecki started for the Mustangs and went three innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out four and walking one. Piasecki had to leave the game after three complete innings and was replaced by Ian “the Mad Irishman” McDermott. McDermott came in and promptly struck out the first three Zee-Bees that he faced. He finished the game allowing one run on one hit, striking out six, walking one and hitting two batters. He picked a runner off second base in the fifth inning with two runners on base and one out. The defense was equally impressive. Catcher Brad Medina had a solid game as he threw out two base runners and didn’t allow a passed ball from his hurlers. In the fifth, left fielder Colton Tortorello made a great sliding catch for the first out saving an extra base hit with the score tied 2-2. But the defensive play of the game for the Mustangs came in the top of the seventh inning with a runner on first and no outs. With a sacrifice bunt called, the Zion hitter bunted a pitch into foul territory on the right side that first baseman Jack Walliser made an unbelievable catch, diving to snare the ball inches from the ground. After a strikeout, Medina threw out the runner trying to advance to second to end the game. Kevin Barber (2-for-3, 2 singles, RBI), Jamie Baldwin (2-for-4, 2 singles, 3 SB), Justin Piasecki (1-for-1, 2B, RBI), Jack Walliser (1-for-3, 3B, RBI), Alex Ahonen (1-for-3, 2B) and Jay Mueller (1-for-3, single, SB) provided the offense for the Mustangs. The Mustangs host Stevenson in a conference doubleheader on Saturday.

MUSTANGS 8 - ZION 2
Pitchers say “that it’s easier to pitch with a lead” and that’s exactly what Mustang hitters did for pitcher Eric Rohe on Tuesday as Mundelein defeated the Zee-Bees 8-2 in Zion.
In the first inning, the Mustangs scored four runs on four hits and Rohe (9-0) had the cushion he needed to gain his ninth victory of the season. The Mustangs scored another run in the 3rd, one in the 5th and two in the 7th with a 13 hit attack. Leading the way offensively for the Mustangs were Colton Tortorello (2-for-4, single, 2B), Jamie Baldwin (2-for-4, 2 singles, SB, RBI), Dillon Smith (2-for-4, 2 singles, 3 SB, 2RBI), Alex Ahonen (3-for-4, 2 singles, 3B, SB, 2RBI) and Brad Medina (3-for-4, 2 singles, 2B, 2RBI). In the first inning, Kevin Barber walked, Tortorello singled, and Baldwin singled scoring Barber. After a double steal and two outs, Smith singled in two runs and Ahonen singled in Smith for the final run of the inning. This would be all the run support Rohe would need as he pitched six strong innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out 7 and walking one. Ian McDermott came in to pitch the seventh inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced. The Mustangs face the Zee-Bees again on Thursday in Mundelein.
From Saturday, April 26:
MUSTANGS 14 - WHEELING 2
The weather was reminiscent of mid-March as the Mustangs defeated the Wheeling Wildcats 14-2 Saturday in Mundelein. With the temperatures in the 40’s and the wind gusting to 35 mph, the Mustangs sent 14 men to the plate in the 4th inning scoring 9 runs on six hits. For the game, the Mustangs collected 9 hits while walking 8 times. Leading the offensive was Colton Tortorello (2-for-3, 2 singles, 2 RBI), Jack Walliser (2-for-2, single, 2B, 2 RBI), Alex Ahonen (2-for-2, single, 2B, 2 RBI) and Brad Medina (2-for-3, 2-2B, 3RBI). Junior Ian McDermott (3-0) had another good outing allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2 in five innings of work. The Wildcats did not score their runs until the fifth inning when the game was out of reach. With the win, the Mustangs move to 17-2 on the season and continue their conference schedule on Tuesday against Zion-Benton.

MUSTANGS 7 - LAKE FOREST 2 When Eric Rohe takes the mound for the Mustangs, good things happen. On Thursday in Lake Forest, Rohe (8-0) was again masterful striking out 12 Scouts in a 7 – 2 victory. Of the 12 strikeouts, 7 caught Lake Forest hitters looking. Rohe allowed 4 hits and walked two over seven complete innings. Under the threat of rain most of the contest, the Mustangs scored three runs in the third inning and four in the sixth to gain the victory and go to 5 – 1 in conference play and 16 – 2 overall.
The offense was led by Kevin Barber (2-for-4, single, 2B, 3 RBI), Colton Tortorello (1-for-3, single, 2 RBI), Jay Mueller (1-for-1, single, 2 walks) and Brad Medina (1-for-3, single, RBI). Also collecting hits were Justin Piasecki (double), Dillon Smith (single), and Alex Ahonen (single).

MUSTANGS 11 - LAKE FOREST 8
The Mustang bats came alive on Tuesday as they pounded out 12 hits in an 11-8 victory over visiting Lake Forest. Every starter collected at least one hit in the attack that featured home runs by Justin Piasecki, Brad Medina and Jay Mueller. The Mustangs took and early lead as Colton Tortorello (2-for-4, 2 singles, RBI) and Jamie Baldwin (1-for-4, single) singled in the first and both scored on Piasecki’s (1-for-3, 3R-HR, 3RBI) home run over the left field fence. In the second inning, Mueller (2-for-3, single, HR, 2RBI) singled, stole second and came home on Tortorello’s second single of the game. After the Scouts tied the game in the top of the fourth inning, the Mustangs exploded for four more runs in their half of the inning. Alex Ahonen (1-for-3, single) singled and came home on catcher Medina’s (2-for-3, single, 2R-HR, 3RBI) home run to left center. Mueller then went back-to-back with his first homer over the left field fence. In the fifth inning, the Mustangs finished their scoring with three more runs. Dillon Smith (1-for-3, 2B) and Ahonen each reached on errors and Smith scored on a balk. Medina singled scoring Ahonen and after Medina advanced to third, he was driven in on a sacrifice fly to right field by Kevin Barber (1-for-3, single, RBI, SAC, SB). The Mustangs survived a four run seventh inning by the Scouts. Ian McDermott came in to end the Scout rally enabling Piasecki (3-0) to gain the victory. Piasecki struck out seven and walked only one over his six innings of work. The Mustangs next travel to Lake Forest on Thursday.

MUSTANGS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER
MUSTANGS 2 - LAKE ZURICH 1 In the first game of a double header in Lake Zurich, the Mustangs pulled out a close 2 – 1 victory over the host Bears behind the strong pitching of Eric Rohe. Rohe (7-0) held Lake Zurich hitters to five hits while striking out 7 and walking 2. The Mustang offense was stymied for most of the game but made the most of their chances in the second inning. After two were out, the next two batters walked when senior catcher Brad Medina (1-for-3, 2B, 2RBI) hit a line drive down the right-field line scoring both runners. The Mustangs managed only three hits after that as Kevin Barber (1-for-3, single) and Jack Walliser (2-for-3, 2 singles) reached based. LAKE ZURICH 14 - MUSTANGS 0
In game two of Saturday’s doubleheader with Lake Zurich, the Mustangs managed only two hits in a five-inning 14-0 loss to the Bears. Maybe it was a sign of things to come when first baseman Justin Piasecki left the first game with an injury that prevented him from pitching game two, or a strike zone that seemed to change from inning to inning but whatever it was, the Mustangs could not get on track. Despite the loss, a bright spot for the Mustangs was the return of senior Jamie Baldwin (1-for-2, single) who singled in his first at bat of the season and Brad Medina (1-for-1, 2B) who collected his second double of the day. Despite the loss, the Mustangs concluded finished the week six wins and one loss and are now 14-2 on the season. The Mustangs host the Lake Forest Scouts on Tuesday.

From Thursday, April 17:
MUSTANGS 6 - LIBERTYVILLE 2
The Mustangs improved their record to 12-1 overall, 2-0 in conference with a convincing 6-2 home victory over Libertyville on Thursday. With a large crowd representing both high schools looking on, the Mustangs overcame an early deficit behind the pitching of senior Justin Piasecki to beat Libertyville for the second time this week. Piasecki (2-0) dominated after the first inning holding the Wildcats to just 4 total hits while striking out 11 and walking 4 over seven innings. Things started out rough for the Mustangs as the Wildcat leadoff man singled to right field and came home on a homerun to right-centerfield by the third batter making the score 2-0. However, that would be all the scoring for the Wildcats as the Mustangs put two runs on the board in the 2nd, one in the 3rd, and three in the 4th innings. In the 2nd, Alex Ahonen (1-for-3, 1B ,RBI) drove in Jack Walliser (1-for-2 ,2B ,SAC) with a hit to right and Jay Mueller (0-for-1, 2BB) scored on a fielders choice by Brad Medina. In the 3rd, Colton Tortorello (1-for-3, 2B) led off with a double to right field, but was caught off base on a sharp grounder by Dillon Smith (1-for-4, 1B,3 SB). Smith stole second and third and was driven home on a sacrifice fly by Walliser. In the 4th inning, the Mustangs put two men on by error and Kevin Barber (1-for-4, 2B) doubled to right-centerfield driving in one. After a single and a walk which loaded the bases, Walliser drove in Barber with an infield grounder. The Mustangs will complete their suspended game with Vernon Hills on Friday (weather permitting) before traveling to Lake Zurich on Saturday to meet the Bears in a conference doubleheader.

From Wednesday, April 16:
MUSTANGS 2 - WAUCONDA 1
The Mustangs found themselves in a dogfight against the Wauconda Bulldogs on Wednesday and when the dust cleared from the warm, gusting 35 mph winds the Mustangs emerged with a 2-1 victory. The Mustangs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as they collected three hits in the first inning. After two were out, Dillon Smith (1-for-3, 2B) doubled to left field and was driven home by Justin Piasecki (1-for-3, 1B, RBI). Jack Walliser (1-for-2, 2B) doubled to left moving Piasecki to 3rd, but both were left stranded on base. The Mustangs struggled for the next four innings before scoring what would be the winning run in the 6th inning. Kevin Barber (1-for-3, single, SB) led off the inning with an infield single and after one out, stole second base. The throw from the Bulldog catcher sailed wide of the bag and skipped into center field where the centerfielder overran the ball allowing Barber to score from first on the steal and two errors. Mustang pitcher Ian McDermott provided yet another strong outing keeping Bulldog hitters off balance with a great changeup and an 83 plus mph fastball. Over seven innings, McDermott allowed 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 6 and walking 3. The Mustangs look to continue their success against Libertyville at home Thursday.
From Tuesday, April 15:
MUSTANGS 4 - LIBERTYVILLE 2
The Mustangs hoped to start their conference schedule with a win on Tuesday and that’s exactly what they did - traveling to Libertyville and beating the host Wildcats 4-2 behind the strong pitching of Eric Rohe. Rohe (5-0) pitched a complete game allowing 3 hits, striking out 8, and while walking 3. Meanwhile, Mustang batters collected 5 hits in scoring four runs against one of the better pitchers in the conference. The Mustangs sent nine men to the plate in the 3rd inning as Alex Ahonen started the inning with a single followed by a double by Brad Medina. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, leadoff man Kevin Barber walked to load the bases. Colton Tortorello hit a hard grounder to second that resulted in an error allowing a run to score. Dillon Smith grounded into a fielder’s choice driving in a run and Justin Piasecki then walked before Jack Walliser singled in a pair. The Wildcats scored two runs in bottom of the 4th and threatened again in the 5th as they had a runner on second base with two outs when the next batter lined a single up the middle that Mustang centerfielder Dillon Smith fielded on two hops and fired a strike to home, cutting down the runner and ending the inning. The Mustangs face Wauconda at home tomorrow before facing Libertyville at home on Thursday.

From Monday, April 7:
MUSTANGS 4 - PRAIRIE RIDGE 1
This game was important. After a loss to Evanston two days before, the Mustangs were facing state-ranked Prairie Ridge in Crystal Lake and wanted to prove that Saturday’s game wasn’t a sign of things to come. Behind a superb pitching performance by senior Eric Rohe (3-0) and timely hitting, the Mustangs beat the Wolves 4-1 Monday to extend their record to 6-1.
Rohe showed his dominance on the mound as he held the Wolves hitless through 5 innings and finished the game with 8 strikeouts while allowing only three hits. In the first inning Rohe got out of an early jam by picking off the leadoff man who had walked and then, after a strikeout, picked off the number four hitter who reached when he was hit by a pitch. As the game progressed, Rohe got stronger and he frustrated Wolves batters with a great curve ball.
At the plate, the Mustangs collected eight hits. After two outs in the fourth inning, seniors Justin Piasecki (1-for-4, single), in his first varsity game this season due to injury, singled to left and Jack Walliser (1-for-2, double, RBI) reached on catcher’s interference before junior Jay Mueller (1-for-3, double, 2 RBI) drove a pitch to left center to score both runners. The Mustangs scored two more runs in the sixth on a hit by junior Colton Tortorello (1-for-3, single), on base by error Dillon Smith (1-for-4, double) and a double by Walliser. Also reaching base with hits were juniors Jack Cunnion (1-for-1) and Kevin Barber (1-for-4).
The Mustangs next travel to Crystal Lake Central on Wednesday weather permitting.
From Saturday, April 5:
EVANSTON 17 - MUSTANGS 4
It was finally warm and sunny but the Mustangs suffered their first defeat of the season as the visiting Wildkits of Evanston Township HS pounded out 20 hits in a 17 to 4 victory. The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead on sloppy play by the visitors, but that lead disappeared in the top of the 3rd inning as the Wildkits pushed three runs across with a deep homerun over the left field fence. The Mustangs gathered four hits on the day against Evanston pitching. Juniors Colton Tortorello (2-for-4, single, double), Kevin Barber (1-for-4, double) and senior Mark VanderVennet (1-for-3, single) accounted for the hits. Senior Jack Walliser had 3 RBI. The Mustangs look to rebound from the loss next week against Prairie Ridge.

From Thursday, April 3:
MUSTANGS 1 - VERNON HILLS 0 (SUSP.)
It turned out to be a pitchers duel. Mustang senior Eric Rohe allowed only four hits and struck out 9 holding the Cougars of Vernon Hill scoreless for seven innings. But the Mustang bats were also cold on a day where the temperature dropped into the low 40’s and a cold rain began falling in the sixth inning. Mundelein scratched out four hits and scored their only run in the top of the 8th inning as senior Alex Ahonen (1-for-3, 3B) tripled to lead off the inning and junior Kevin Barber (1-for-3, 2 singles, SAC, SB, RBI) drove him home with a sacrifice fly to left. Senior Jack Walliser (1-for-3, single, SB) collected the other hit for the Mustangs. After taking the lead in the top of the 8th, Rohe walked the first batter in the bottom of the frame and before a pitching change could be made, the game was called.
On April 18th, this game was completed. Jay Mueller was on the mound for the Mustangs as Vernon Hills started with a runner on first and no outs. After a stolen base, Mueller picked off the runner at second base. The final Cougar batter hit a sharp grounder between third and short that shortstop Barber dove and caught but was unsuccessful in throwing the batter out. Mueller then picked the runner off of first base to record the final out of the game. Eric Rohe recorded the win and is now 6-0 on the season.

From Thursday, March 27:
MUSTANGS 10 - FENTON 0
In his first start of the season, junior pitcher Ian McDermott tossed a five inning no-hitter against the Bison from Fenton H.S. and the Mustangs went on to a
10-0 victory. McDermott (1-0) struck out six and only allowed six base runners in his five innings of work.
The Mustangs scored three runs in the 1st inning as senior Marc Neff walked, juniors Kevin Barber (1-for-2, single, SB), Dillon Smith (1-for-3, single, 2 RBI), Jay Mueller (1-for-2, single, 2 RBI) and Colton Tortorello (1-for-1, BB, single, RBI, SB) provided the offense. Smith just missed his third HR of the season in the 2nd as he drove a fastball towards left center field that was snagged by the Bison left fielder with an over-the-top of the fence grab. The Mustangs scored five more runs in the 3rd inning as they sent ten men to the plate. Senior Brad Medina doubled to start the inning. Five Mustang batters were HBP during the game.
Due to heavy rains the night before, this game was played 20 miles south of Carbondale at the Cobden H.S. field. Game time temperature was 65 degrees. The game was originally scheduled to be played on the Southern Illinois University baseball field. Coach Parola was unhappy that the team was not able to compete at the university, but happy that the scheduled games were all played before the team headed home to the warm, dry balmy March weather in Mundelein.

MUSTANGS 9 - COBDEN 1
The wind subsided and a gray, overcast day set the scene for Wednesday’s match up between the Mustangs and the Cobden Appleknockers at Rent One Park in Marion, IL. Rent One Park, home of the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League, is a beautiful 3,700 seat, 6,000+ capacity stadium that sports an all artificial turf field allowing for games in all types of weather. The Mustangs prevailed 9-1 in the six inning contest which was shortened by severe weather (lightning).
In the contest the Mustangs sent nine men to the plate in both the 2nd and 4th innings and jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Cobden got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run. Leading the Mustang’s attack was junior Colton Tortorello 2-for-3 (BB, 2 singles, 2 SB) and senior Jack Walliser 2-for-3 (BB, single, 2B). Junior Dillon Smith doubled of the left field wall to drive in a run and junior Jay Mueller walked, singled and stole two bases. The Mustangs collected 10 hits and walked 7 times in the contest.

Playing at Rent One Park was the highlight of the trip and the underclassmen on the trip look forward to a visit to this beautiful facility in upcoming years. Upon returning to the hotel, cleaning up and having dinner, the team traveled to the Southern Illinois Campus and enjoyed bowling and billiards at the SIU Student Activities Center.
From Tuesday, March 25:
MUSTANGS 10 - CARBONDALE 2
Wind gusts of 45 mph greeted the Mustangs Tuesday morning as they took batting practice at Southern Illinois University and continued throughout the day as the Mustangs defeated the Carbondale Terriers 10-2 at Carbondale H.S. in the second of four games on their spring trip.
The Mustang’s offensive leaders were junior Dillon Smith 1-for-1 (Sac, 2R-HR, BB, 3 RBI), junior Kevin Barber 2-for-4 (2 singles) and senior Jack Walliser 2-for4 (2 singles, 3 stolen bases). From Monday, March 24:
MUSTANGS 14 - DANVILLE 2
It was supposed to be warmer down south as the Mustangs began their four game spring road trip in Danville, IL yet Mother Nature had other ideas. A late morning rain, gusty winds and temperatures in the low 40’s forced Mundelein’s game with host Danville from historic Danville Stadium to nearby Garfield Park where the Mustangs pounded out a 14-2 victory.
Leading the way for the Mustangs was senior pitcher Eric Rohe (2-0), who allowed 2 runs on five hits over five innings while striking out 9. Sophomore Steven Piasecki (6th inning) and junior Sam Carrasco (7th inning) closed out the contest.
On offense the Mustangs pounded out 14 runs on 11 hits. They also drew 10 walks against three Danville pitchers. The Mustangs were led by junior Dillon Smith who went 3-for-4 with a deep home run into a biting wind. Smith collected 6 RBI’s for the contest. Senior Vince Wong (2 hits, 2 RBI) and junior Kevin Barber (2 hits, dbl, 1 RBI) also helped lead the offense. In the fifth inning, Danville threatened to cut into the Mustangs lead in the bottom of the 5th inning with two singles after one out, but the next batter hit a line drive to towards the right field corner that junior Colton Tortorello caught on the run and threw back to second base doubling up the runner and ending the threat.
