Nearly 100 District 120 residents, parents and staff members took part October 25 in the first of seven meetings to be held at Mundelein High School to determine the future direction of the District. Called M-PACT (Mundelein Parents and Community Together), the program aims to bring to reality the many goals of the district’s Long Range Planning process.
Following a brief introduction by Co-Interim Superintendents Linda Hanson and John Barbini, the evening’s activities were turned over to Community Co-Chairs for the process, Olivia Maple and Lori Wilcox. The two shared information about the process and gave an overview of the goals for the district that stemmed from the Long Range Planning subcommittees. Principal/Deputy Superintendent John Ahlgrim joined Maple to explain which Long Range Planning goals have already been put into place and others that are still in the works based because of time, financial needs or personnel.
After the background information was presented, the participants were placed into groups for discussion. Their task was to rank the top five priorities for the District from a list of 11 overall goals. The group spokespersons then reported on the top priority for their groups.
Maple believes that this process is a perfect way to involve the community in a closer look at what has been developed in the Long Range Plan, and what will be needed to fully implement that plan for the continued improvement of the high school. “A high school is only as strong and vibrant as the involvement and support it receives from the very community it serves,” she said.
While the opening meeting on October 25 was a general review of the goals for the district, the remaining meetings will be about specific subjects:
November 29 - Facilities (existing conditions)
January 24 - Academics
February 21 - Programs
March 13 - Finance
April 17 - Future needs
May 8 - Review of all Recommendations
