MUNDELEIN HIGH SCHOOL VISION

Mundelein High School is the heart of our community. Our vision is to create an environment where all value working together for the improvement of our school, where parents are confident that their students are receiving an excellent education, and where the school’s quality enhances the community. Together, we commit to provide the best educational environment possible as we support all learners.

Our vision is divided into three categories: School Culture, Learner Outcomes, and Instructional Program. Clarifying our vision in these three areas allows us to align our decisions, practices, and policies to support the needs of all learners.

I. THE VISION OF OUR SCHOOL CULTURE
To achieve our desired school culture, our school community must:

•  Make decisions guided by what is best for students.

•  Provide a safe, supportive learning and teaching environment that acknowledges, celebrates, and supports the diversity of our school and community.

•  Value and encourage collaboration, collegiality, sharing and teamwork as they are the keys to success in life.

•  Foster a community-school bond that supports and values parent and community involvement in our school.

•  Teach with passion to create an environment that inspires student interest, success and a commitment to life-long learning.

•  Support students' in their physical, mental, social and personal development.

•  Foster open, truthful communication that establishes and maintains trust and confidence among all members of the school and community.

•  Value the student voice in decision-making.

•  Create an environment that encourages respect and involvement among all constituent groups, recognizing and celebrating their successes.

II. THE VISION OF LEARNER OUTCOMES
In order for students to be prepared for their future lives, we believe our students must:

•  Master essential core content knowledge in math, English and the social, physical and life sciences.

•  Develop effective communication skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

•  Understand that continual learning is an expectation throughout life.

•  Possess a strong work ethic, be flexible, be responsible and work effectively as team members.

•  Know the value of knowledge, where to find it, how to process it and how to apply it.

•  Be positive and productive members of society with a sense of obligation to give back to others.

•  Demonstrate advanced computer literacy skills.

III. THE VISION OF INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS
To provide the best instructional delivery program for our students, we believe our district must:

•  Maintain a staff of great educators who are highly skilled and motivated.

•  Provide flexible, differentiated instruction with special attention given to reading and the comprehension levels of students.

•  Instruct students through hands-on, experiential learning in highly interactive classes.

•  Use a variety of methods to define student success, including standardized test scores.

•  Ask questions as a part of the learning process.

•  Provide an emotionally safe classroom where intellectual experimentation, risk-taking and accepting mistakes are part of the learning environment.
