The Community
The Village of Mundelein
is a diverse, country/suburban community of 30,000 people,
located in the heart of Lake County, Illinois. Just
35 miles northwest of Chicago and 10 miles west of Lake
Michigan,
Mundelein lies between Chicago and Milwaukee, no more than
a one hour drive from either. The community is well
served by an excellent network of highways, including Interstate
94, Routes 45, 60, 176, and 83. This convenient
location allows residents to take advantage of the tremendous
job, educational, recreational, sports, and fine arts opportunities
that both large cities have to offer. O'Hare International
airport, and Milwaukee's Mitchell Field are both less than
an hour drive, and offer a true gateway to the world. Commuters
to Chicago's Loop have three train systems to choose from,
including Metra's North Central line with service to and
from
Mundelein.
Mundelein values family
and education, as evidenced by National Blue Ribbon awards
at the elementary and high school levels, and in the strength
of parent involvement in educational and community issues.
The community is served by one public high school district,
Mundelein High School District 120, and four public elementary
school districts: Elementary District 75, Fremont District
79, Diamond Lake District 76 and Hawthorn District 73. Two
parochial grade schools and one Catholic high school are also
located in Mundelein. The University of St. Mary of the Lake
Seminary makes it home on a beautiful campus in Mundelein,
and the College of Lake County, is located in neighboring
Grayslake. National universities, including Northwestern,
Marquette, DePaul, Trinity International University, Lake
Forest College, Barat College, Northern Illinois, IIT, the
University of Chicago, and the University of Illinois – Chicago
Circle campus are also located within a reasonable driving
distance.
A complete spectrum
of housing types and styles can be found, ranging from two
bedroom starters in established neighborhoods, to custom
homes on estate-size acreage. There are areas with turn-of-the
century
ambiance, and other areas where entire new subdivisions boast
the latest in comfortable living. Beautiful homes can be
found
in town, or lining the shores of surrounding lakes or fairways.
Prices range from $150,000 to more than a million.
Mundelein residents
also enjoy the extensive open space and farmland, forest
preserve
and park systems, which characterize Lake County. Mundelein
is known for fine golf courses. The Village has seven public
golf courses located within or adjacent to its boundaries.
Additional recreation includes boating, fishing, ice-skating
and swimming on Diamond Lake; and excellent Park District
facilities with swimming pools, state-of-the-art workout
centers,
ball fields and neighborhood parks.
Mundelein is home to
over 800 businesses, and is second in the number of manufacturing
firms in Lake County. The community boasts five attractive,
well-located business parks, and plenty of opportunity for
employment.
Neighboring communities include Libertyville, Vernon Hills,
Long Grove, and Grayslake. Fremont Township, of which
Mundelein is the cornerstone, was rated as one of the “Hottest”
areas of the country where people want to live by Money
magazine in their January, 2004 issue.
