Mundelein High School is a comprehensive one-school district with grades 9-12. The district covers a 36 square-mile area and serves the needs of 2100 students from Mundelein and surrounding communities. Mundelein is located approximately 40 miles north of Chicago. Neighboring high schools include Libertyville, Vernon Hills, Stevenson, and Buffalo Grove.

The school has a strong academic program, with approximately 90% of the graduates continuing their education at post-secondary institutions. The school offers a wide range of challenging courses, including honors and Advanced Placement classes that are available to any interested student. The school also offers special education services, ESL, and bilingual classes. Qualified students may also take classes at the nearby College of Lake County, as well as at the Lake County High School's Technology campus. The school offers numerous extra-curricular programs, clubs, and activities, as well as a comprehensive athletic program of 24 varsity sports for men and women.

MHS is proud of its highly educated staff members, who exhibit a commitment to quality education. MHS is also proud of the number of programs, including art, business education, language arts, social studies, math, science and music that have won state and national awards. MHS continues to serve as a model for other schools. Its recognitions include:
