AMERICAN GOVERNMENT & POLITICS - Overview

Course Themes and Essential Questions:  
•  Power- How is power used and the abuse of power prevented in our governmental system?  
•  Citizen Involvement- How do citizens, groups, and institutions impact American government?  
•  Individual liberties- How does our government balance civil liberties and order?  

 

Course Goals:      
1. Students will understand the role of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.  
2. Students will explain the historical background of American government.  
3. Students will analyze the roles of the media, interest groups, and campaign finance in the political process.  
4. Students will examine the basic principles of the American Constitution.  
5. Students will examine the different means of political participation.
