Free Adult Education Classes

English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Educational Development (GED) and Citizenship Preparation are tuition free classes funded through the Illinois Community College Board. Classes are open enrollment. Students must register in person during class times at sites they wish to attend. In compliance with the Stevens Amendment, the above programs will be funded in part with $135,438 (approx. 37%) of Federal money during FY08.

This class is a preparation for the GED. Instruction and counseling are available to anyone 17 years or older.

Instruction and counseling are available for anyone 17 years or older who desires a thorough preparation for the GED exam. Students must take the GED exam at CLC, but the Constitution exam is administered at Mundelein. Students will be tested for placement in the above-listed classes on the first day of class.

This class is for credit recovery and culminates in the issuance of a high school diploma. Students use a computer program to earn credits for classes in which they are deficient. The courses are consistent with the Mundelein High School program and the Illinois State Standards for Learning. Students are required to spend 30 hours on the computer and to pass all tests with a minimum proficiency of 80% to earn one half credit. |

Citizenship classes are offered on a twelve-week rotation. Anyone who anticipates applying for citizenship should take this class before taking the test. Please call the Adult Education office (847) 949-2200 x1400 to sign up. NO FEE. |
English as a Second Language
Six levels of instruction are offered for adults with limited English speaking or writing ability, up to and including Advanced Conversation/Composition. Students will improve their conversation, writing, spelling and pronunciation in English. Registration is required for ESL classes. Two (2) pieces of identification are required for registration.
