Local Scholarship Listings

Link to Local Scholarship Listing

Dear Parents and Students:

This booklet is printed in order to assist students and their families as they attempt to apply for scholarships and financial assistance to enable them to attend the college or university of their choice.

The following is a list of scholarships that MHS received during the school year. We assume, but cannot guarantee, that these scholarships will be made available to our students this year. All the scholarships have, traditionally, been available to MHS students. Keep in mind this is by no means a complete list of all scholarships available.

At the time of this printing NOT all scholarships have been made available. We assume, but cannot guarantee deadline dates will be the same. Check in the College & Career Center for updated information. Deadline dates can change.

As scholarships come in, they are filed in the scholarship file. We encourage you to remind your sons/daughters to check the scholarship file in the College & Career Center (located in the Media Center) often and to listen to the daily announcements.

Please take time to read this list and see if you might qualify for any of those items on the list. Feel free to contact me the College & Career Center at 949-2200 ext.248 if you have any questions. Be resourceful. Students who persist and fill out scholarship applications on time are often successful.

The best source of financial aid is often the Office of Financial Aid of the college of the student’s choice. When the college knows the amount of need, it makes every effort to supply the funds through its financial aid program. Persons who can help you are the high school counselor and the financial aid officer at the college of your choice.

These are the steps to be followed when applying for financial aid.
1. Be accepted by a college.
2. Apply for financial aid at the college by:
(a) Submitting the financial aid form.
(b) Checking the state scholarship and/or Pell Grant boxes on the form.
(c) Applying for Illinois Guaranteed Loan program through your local bank.
(d) Checking the scholarship file for scholarships. Submit your application at least 10 WORKING DAYS IN ADVANCE OF THE DEADLINE.
(e) College Illinois – the new Illinois pre-paid tuition program. The deadline is February 28.

For your assistance, we have listed the scholarships alphabetically under the categories headed:

DEADLINE DATE – The date by which the application must arrive at the scholarship sponsoring organization.

ELIGIBILITY – A brief description of the requirements a student must meet in order to be considered for the scholarship.

REQUIREMENTS/AMOUNT – The types of forms, letters, and/or essays the student needs to complete the application and, when known, the monetary value of the scholarship.

It is the student’s responsibility to make sure all recommendations are obtained and forms completed, prior to the 10-day deadline.

ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT. GOOD LUCK!
