BLOCK SCHEDULE
MHS is unique among high schools in the area in that it is structured with a 4 x 4 Block Schedule. The school year is divided into four terms of 44 days. Each day has four 90-minute classes, plus a lunch period and 10 minute passing times. One half credit (.5) is awarded for each successfully completed term class.

The block schedule allows students the opportunity to earn 32 credits (8 per year) over a four-year career at Mundelein High School. This is a great value for taxpayers, and offers students greater exposure to a wide variety of high-interest electives.

The block schedule gives students the opportunity to quickly move through areas of particular interest and expertise, resulting in greater opportunity for Advanced Placement classes for juniors and seniors. The four 90-minute classes provide in-depth experiences for learning and enable students to focus their studies on a few classes rather than six or seven classes, as in a traditional eight-period day.

In addition, the 360-minute class time, coupled with a 30-minute homeroom/resource time, creates a 390-minute instructional day, which is extremely beneficial in terms of time on-task and learning.
